Overview

This document describes the Honeywell Touchdown 48" Ceiling Fan, Model #50205. It serves as a comprehensive guide for assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Honeywell Touchdown 48" Ceiling Fan is designed to provide air circulation and illumination in indoor spaces. It features a reversible motor for seasonal performance optimization, allowing for downward airflow in warmer weather to create a wind chill effect, and upward airflow in cooler weather to help move hot air off the ceiling. The fan can be installed with or without a light kit, offering flexibility based on user preference. It supports three mounting options: standard, angled, and closemount, to accommodate various ceiling heights and angles.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model Number: 50205
  • Fan Weight: 14.55 lbs. (6.6 kg)
  • Blade Span: 48 inches (implied by "TOUCHDOWN 48" CEILING FAN")
  • Minimum Blade Clearance: 7 ft. (2.14 m) from the blades to the floor.
  • Minimum Obstruction Clearance: At least 30 in. (76 cm) from the end of the blades to any obstruction.
  • Outlet Box Support: Must be mounted to an outlet box marked "АССЕРТАBLE FOR FAN SUPPORT" and capable of supporting at least 35 lbs. (15.88 kg) of moving weight.
  • Ceiling Angle (Angled Mount): Not steeper than 16°.
  • Light Kit (Optional): Supports three bulbs.
  • Power Limit (Light Kit): If a limiter is included, the light should not exceed 190W.
  • Electrical Connections: Must comply with local codes, ordinances, the National Electrical Code, and ANSI/NFPA 70-199.
  • Speed Control: Not to be used with solid-state speed-control devices or full-range dimmer switches.

Usage Features

  • Mounting Options:
    • Standard Mount (Fig. 1): Best suited for ceilings 8 ft. (2.44 m) or higher.
    • Angled Mount (Fig. 2): Best suited for angled or vaulted ceilings (ceiling angle not steeper than 16°). A longer downrod may be necessary for proper blade clearance.
    • Closemount Mount (Fig. 3): Most suitable for ceilings lower than 8 ft. (2.44 m) high. The downrod, hanging ball, and canopy cover are not used in this type of installation.
  • Seasonal Performance Optimization:
    • Warmer Weather (Fig. 29): Push the reverse switch left for downward airflow, creating a wind chill effect. This allows for raising the thermostat and saving energy.
    • Cooler Weather (Fig. 30): Push the reverse switch right and set the fan to low for upward airflow, helping to move hot air off the ceiling. This mixes the air, potentially reducing furnace run time and yielding energy savings.
  • Light Kit: The fan can be installed with or without a light kit. If installed, it includes three glass shades and three bulbs. Pull chains are provided for separate control of the fan and light.
  • Ease of Assembly: Estimated assembly time is under 120 minutes. Tools required include electrical tape, Phillips screwdriver, pliers, safety glasses, step ladder, and wire strippers. Helpful tools include an AC tester light, tape measure, wiring handbook, and wire cutters.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Inspection: At least twice a year, the canopy should be lowered to check the downrod assembly, and all screws on the fan should be tightened.
  • Cleaning:
    • Motor Housing: Clean with only a soft brush or lint-free cloth to avoid scratching the finish.
    • Blades: Clean with a lint-free cloth. A light coat of furniture polish can occasionally be applied to wood blades for added protection.
  • Bulb Replacement: When replacing bulbs, allow the bulb and light kit to cool down before touching them.
  • Safety Precaution: Always shut off the main power supply before beginning any maintenance tasks. Do not use water or a damp cloth to clean the ceiling fan.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as the fan not moving, noisy operation, excessive wobbling, or lights not working. Solutions involve checking power, connections, screw tightness, blade balance, and bulb installation.
  • Replacement Parts: A list of replacement parts (Blade Arm, Blade, Shade, and Loose parts bags) with corresponding part numbers (50205-A, 50205-B, 50205-C, 50205-D) is provided, along with customer service contact information for ordering.
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty: The fan motor is warranted against defects in workmanship and material for the life of the product. All other ceiling fan parts (excluding the motor and parts made with glass) are warranted for one year from the date of purchase. The warranty covers repair or replacement of defective parts, but not costs of removal/reinstallation, damage from ordinary wear and tear, accident, misuse, or improper installation. An unlicensed electrician performing service will invalidate the warranty.
