Overview

The Hoover SteamVac SpinScrub with MAX Extract is a deep cleaner designed for household use, specifically for deep cleaning carpets, rugs, carpeted stairs, and upholstery, as well as scrubbing bare floors. It utilizes hot tap water and cleaning solution to clean carpet fibers and can also pick up small liquid spills.

Function Description:

The deep cleaner operates by dispensing a cleaning solution onto the surface and then extracting the dirty solution. It features 6 rotating SpinScrub brushes that deep clean carpets and scrub bare floors. The MAX Extract™ feature includes indicator lights (red, amber, and green) to inform the user when the recovery tank is full, needs to be emptied, or when dirty solution is being picked up or when little to no dirty solution is being picked up. An automatic "shut-off" mechanism engages when the recovery tank is full, reducing suction and indicating that the tank needs to be emptied. The deep cleaner automatically diverts suction from the floor nozzle to the tool when the handle is in the upright position.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power: Operates on a nominal 120-volt circuit.
  • Grounding: Must be properly grounded with a 3-prong grounding-type plug.
  • Detergents: Designed for use with HOOVER detergents (Anionic and Nonionic Surfactants). Bare Floor Cleaner should not be used on carpet or upholstery. No wax should be used with the deep cleaner.
  • Clean Solution Tank Capacity: Holds 1 gallon of cleaning solution.
  • Headlight: Uses a 7-volt, wedge base type bulb (Hoover part no. 27313106).
  • Brush Settings: Three agitator brush settings: HI (normal cleaning), LO (gentle cleaning), and OFF (when brushing is not desired, e.g., for liquid spills).
  • Liquid Spill Capacity: Can pick up small liquid spills (1 gallon or less, never to exceed 1/4 inch in depth).

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The manual provides detailed instructions for attaching the upper handle, hose holder, and tool holder, as well as reattaching the tool cover.
  • Handle Operation: Features an ON/OFF pedal and a handle release pedal to lower the handle to the operating (floor) position. The handle "floats" for convenient operation and locks in an upright position for transport.
  • Cleaning Mode Indicator: A green window indicates either "FLOOR" (handle in operating position) or "TOOL" (handle in upright position).
  • Clean Solution Tank: Easily removable for filling with cleaning solution and hot tap water. The tank cap doubles as a measuring cup for detergent.
  • Recovery Tank: Holds dirty solution and has an automatic shut-off when full. It is easily removable for emptying and rinsing.
  • Carpet Cleaning:
    • Requires thorough vacuuming beforehand.
    • Pre-treatment with HOOVER PreCleaner Spray is recommended for heavy traffic areas or spots.
    • Users should test for colorfastness in a hidden area.
    • Cleaning involves applying solution with slow forward strokes (wet strokes) and extracting with slow backward strokes (dry strokes).
    • The 'MAX Extract' amber light indicates dirty solution pickup, and the green light indicates little to no dirty solution pickup.
    • Strokes should be overlapped by 1 inch to prevent streaking.
    • Not more than 4 wet strokes should be used over one area, always ending with dry strokes.
  • Bare Floor Cleaning:
    • Requires attaching a bare floor attachment to the nozzle.
    • Bare Floor Cleaner should be used.
    • Brushes can be set to LO or HI for scrubbing, or OFF if scrubbing is not desired.
    • Not for use on hardwood floors.
  • Clean Surge™ Button: Dispenses extra solution for particularly soiled areas or spots.
  • Picking Up Spills: Can be used to pick up small liquid spills on carpet, upholstery, or bare floors. For bare floors, the bare floor attachment should be in place, and the brush speed selector should be in the OFF position.
  • Tool Usage:
    • Includes a powered hand tool with rotating brushes for small carpet areas, carpeted stairs, and upholstery.
    • A stair/upholstery nozzle with a built-in brush for scrubbing.
    • A scrub module with a detachable scrub pad for stubborn areas on hard surfaces.
    • A crevice tool for cleaning edges of carpet, carpeted stairs, and upholstery.
    • Tools attach to the hose.
    • The system may need to be "primed" by blocking suction for a few seconds to ensure solution flow to the tool.
    • When cleaning upholstery, ensure the fabric is marked "W" (wet clean) or "S/W" (solvent/dry or wet clean).

Maintenance Features:

  • Nozzle Cleaning: If lint or debris lodges in the nozzle, clear water can be poured on a non-carpeted floor and picked up by the cleaner until debris is flushed out. Some models include a nozzle clean-out tool.
  • After Cleaning:
    • Allow carpet or upholstery to dry completely.
    • Tanks should be emptied, rinsed with clear water, and air-dried.
    • The solution tank cap and recovery tank lid should also be rinsed and air-dried.
    • Lint should be removed from the filter screen located inside the recovery tank and on the bottom of the cleaner.
    • Thorough vacuuming after drying is recommended to reduce shading.
  • Headlight Replacement: Instructions are provided for replacing the 7-volt wedge base type bulb.
  • Removable Brushes: The deep cleaner is equipped with removable brushes for easy cleaning under running water. Instructions are provided for removal and replacement.
  • Scrub Pad Cleaning: The scrub pad can be pulled off the module, washed with mild detergent, rinsed, and air-dried. It must be completely dry before reattaching.
  • Lubrication: The motor bearings are pre-lubricated for life; no additional lubricant should be added.
  • Storage: Before storing, both tanks should be emptied and rinsed. The deep cleaner should be run briefly with an empty solution tank to expel any remaining solution. Brushes and the underside of the cleaner should be air-dried thoroughly before storing on a carpeted or wood surface. The cleaner should not be stored with a full solution tank.
