Function Description:

The Hotpoint TCHL 73 Tumble Dryer is an appliance used to dry clothes after washing. It offers a range of drying programmes tailored to different fabric types and desired dryness levels. The dryer utilizes heat and tumbling action to remove moisture from garments. Key functionalities include timed drying, automatic programmes for specific fabric types (Cottons, Synthetics), and special options like "Easy Iron" and "Cool Tumble." It also incorporates features to prevent creasing and manage water collection.

Important Technical Specifications (Derived from Usage Features):

  • Maximum Load Sizes:
    • Natural fibres: Max 7kg
    • Synthetic fibres: Max 3kg
  • Timed Drying Options: Available in increments from 20 to 150 minutes (150, 140, 120, 100, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, or 20 minutes).
  • Heat Settings: High Heat and Low Heat options are available, particularly for Timed Drying Programmes. Timed programmes default to low heat.

  • Spin Speed (for Cottons drying times reference): 800-1000 rpm in the washing machine.
  • Reduced Spin (for Synthetics drying times reference): Used in the washing machine.

Usage Features:

The dryer's control panel includes a PROGRAMME Knob, ON/OFF Button, START/PAUSE Button & Light, OPTION Buttons & Lights, and indicator lights for Clean Filter, Empty Water, Clean Condenser, and Progress/Delay.

Choosing a Programme:

  1. Sort laundry by fabric type.
  2. Ensure the filter is clean and the water container is empty and in place.
  3. Load the machine, ensuring the door seal is clear, and close the door.
  4. If off, press the On/Off button.
  5. Consult the Programmes Guide and fabric indications to choose a programme.
  6. Rotate the PROGRAMMES knob to select the desired programme.
  7. Set any delay time or other options.
  8. Press the START/PAUSE button (flashing green) to begin. The light will stop flashing.

Programmes Available:

  • Cottons Ready to Wear: Dries clothes on High Heat, ready for wearing.
  • Standard Cotton: Dries clothes on High Heat, ready for putting away.
  • Synthetics Cupboard dry: Dries clothes on Low Heat, ready for putting away.
  • Easy Iron: A brief (approx. 10 minutes) programme that softens fibres for ironing.
  • Cool Tumble: A brief (approx. 10 minutes) programme that cools fibres.
  • Timed Drying: Dries wet clothing on Low Heat or small loads (less than 1kg). Can use High Heat option. The last 10 minutes of these programmes is a Cool Tumble phase.

Option Buttons/Lights:

These buttons customize selected programmes. An option light illuminates to confirm selection. If an option is unavailable, the buzzer will beep three times.

Progress (Drying, Cool Tumble, End)/Delay (3hr,6hr,9hr) Lights:

These lights indicate the selected delay time (when flashing) or the dryer's progress through its phases.

Delay Timer:

Allows delaying the start of a programme for up to 9 hours in 3-hour steps. The water container should be emptied before setting a delayed start. Pressing the Delay Timer button cycles through 3hr, 6hr, 9hr, and then cancels the delay. Holding the On/Off button also cancels the delay.

Pre Care:

When selected with a delayed start, clothes are tumbled occasionally during the delay period to prevent creases.

High Heat:

Available for Timed Drying Programmes. Pressing this button selects a high heat setting (light on). Pressing it again selects low heat (light off). Timed programmes default to low heat.

Post Care:

When selected, clothes are occasionally tumbled after the drying and cool tumble cycles to prevent creases if not removed immediately. The "End" light is on during this phase.

Door Opening:

Opening the door or pressing Start/Pause during a programme stops the dryer.

  • The Start/Pause light flashes amber.
  • During a delay phase, the delay continues to count down. Press Start/Pause to resume.
  • During a programme, press Start/Pause to resume. Progress lights update, and Start/Pause light turns green.
  • During Post Care, the programme finishes. Pressing Start/Pause will restart a new programme.
  • Changing the programme knob selects a new programme, and the Start/Pause light flashes green. This can be used to select Cool Tumble to cool clothes. Press Start/Pause to begin the new programme.

End of Cycle:

The "End" light comes on. The buzzer beeps three times. If Crease Care is selected and items are not removed, they will tumble occasionally for 10 hours or until the door is opened, then the buzzer will beep three times.

Sorting Laundry:

  • Check care labels for tumble drying suitability.
  • Sort by fabric type.
  • Empty pockets, check for loose buttons.
  • Close zips, hooks, and fasten belts/strings without tightening.
  • Wring out garments thoroughly.
  • Do not load dripping wet garments.

Drying Times:

Drying times are approximate and vary based on:

  • Amount of water retained after spin cycle.
  • Fabric type, texture, and thickness.
  • Amount of laundry (single items/small loads take longer).
  • Desired dryness level (damp for ironing, completely dry for storage).
  • Heat setting.
  • Room temperature.
  • Bulk of items (bulky items may need to be removed, shaken, and replaced multiple times).

Maintenance Features:

  • Clean Filter: The "Clean Filter Light" indicates when the filter needs cleaning. It's recommended to ensure the filter is clean and in place before each use.
  • Empty Water Container: The "Empty Water Light" (not flashing) reminds you to empty the water container. If it fills during a programme, the heater turns off, the dryer performs a Cool Tumble, and the light flashes with a buzzer sound. You must empty the container and restart the dryer. It's recommended to empty the water container each time you use the dryer to avoid this.
  • Clean Condenser: The "Clean Condenser Light" indicates when the condenser needs cleaning. (Specific instructions for cleaning the condenser are not detailed in this excerpt but implied by the indicator light).
  • End of Programme Routine: After each cycle, open the door, take out laundry, clean the filter, and empty the water container.
