Reliable scanning
Use the automatic document feeder for easy two-sided scanning for documents up to legal size—just drop off
your job for automatic scanning. For bound or irregular documents, use the convenient color flatbed scanner.
Digital sending
The MFP comes standard with these digital sending features to streamline workflows in your office: send to
e-mail, send to network folder, LDAP and SMTP authentication, and LDAP addressing. Optional HP Digital
Sending Software 4.3 expands functionality to include send to LAN fax, send to printer, and send to application
capability. Add HP AutoStore to improve workflow by routing information to existing document management

Affordable and reliable analog faxing
Quickly and easily send and receive documents with analog faxing.

• Efficiently process fax jobs at up to 33.6 kbps.
• Easily retrieve data with fax polling. Request information stored on another machine to automatically
receive a fax with the desired information. Fax polling is just what you need to efficiently gather frequently
used documents, such as forms or reports.
• Take advantage of fax forwarding to receive important faxes wherever you are. Route incoming faxes to
another fax number when you or your clients are traveling or away from your primary fax. With easy-to-use
fax forwarding, never miss a business-critical fax.
• Store up to 100 frequently used numbers or lists of numbers with speed dialing.
• Get helpful feedback on your fax job with the device’s control panel. Know the status of your fax in an
instant with this informative display feature.
Printing compatibility
To deliver effortless printing in multiple environments, the MFP supports HP PCL5e for backward compatibility
and legacy print jobs, HP PCL6 for performance, and HP postscript level 3 emulation for PostScript
®
print jobs.
Automatic language switching ensures that the appropriate printer language is used for every document.
Embedded hard drive
The MFP includes a 40 GB hard drive, which provides a virtual mailbox to keep sensitive documents confidential,
proof a document before releasing the remaining copies, and store frequently printed jobs for easy retrieval,
such as expense reports or invoices. For more information, see “Convenient job retention features“ on page 18.
Extended functionality
Take advantage of market-leading HP and third-party solutions via open DIMM and EIO slots, and a foreign
interface port. Choose from a variety of solutions, including wireless, Gigabit Ethernet, or IPsec

networking, additional fonts, business process forms, barcode printing, document capture, job accounting, and
enhanced security. Enjoy memory expandability up to 512 MB RAM.
Direct PDF printing
With the MFP’s direct PDF printing solution, a PDF file can be sent from any device, without
using PDF reader/converter software. The MFP directly renders PDFs to printed output,
bypassing conversion processes used by other product-based solutions, which increases
printing performance and removes possible conversion errors. Direct PDF printing enables
driverless printing of PDF files, allowing printing from devices of all types, such as handheld
and notebook computers, mobile phones, and PDAs.
