IMPORTANT: Make special note of each screw and screw lock size and location during removal
and replacement.
Before removing the optical drive, follow these steps:
1. Turn o the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is o or in Hibernation, turn
the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect the power from the computer by rst unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then
unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
3. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 38).
Remove the optical drive:

Disconnect the optical drive cable from the computer (1). Remove the Phillips M2.0 × 2.5 screw (2)
securing the optical drive in the computer, and then lift drive (3) away from the computer.
Reverse this procedure to install the optical drive.
