Overview

The HP ProLiant DL180 G5 is a 2U rack-mounted server designed for high-capacity storage and optimized for various rack deployments and applications. It offers a balance of performance, storage, and manageability features for businesses seeking a cost-effective server solution.

Function Description:

The HP ProLiant DL180 G5 serves as a versatile 2-way server, capable of handling demanding workloads with its support for up to two Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors from the 5400 sequence, featuring 12MB Level 2 cache. It utilizes the Intel 5100 Chipset and supports up to 16 GB of PC2-5300 (667 MHz) DDR2 memory across six slots, ensuring efficient data processing and multitasking.

For internal storage, the server is highly flexible, supporting up to twelve hot-plug 3.5-inch Serial ATA (SATA) or Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard drives via CTO (Configure To Order) or up to eight via BTO (Build To Order). Hot-plug and SAS functionality require the addition of a Smart Array or HBA controller, with 12 hard drive support necessitating a 4-port SAS controller that supports expanders. This allows for a substantial internal storage capacity of up to 9TB with SATA drives or 3.6TB with SAS drives. Optical drive options include a multi-bay DVD-ROM or DVD-RW, and a USB-only floppy drive is also supported.

Network connectivity is provided by an integrated NC105i PCI-e Gigabit NIC, which is embedded and supports Wake on LAN and PXE. This ensures reliable and fast network communication for various applications.

The server's expansion capabilities are robust, featuring one available low-profile x8 PCI-Express slot with a low-profile riser. Additionally, it offers two full-height/full-length riser options: one with two full-length/full-height PCI-Express x8 connector slots (x4 electrical - Standard), and another with two PCI-X slots (Optional). All slots can accept universal keyed PCI cards.

Power is supplied by either a 750W power supply (optional redundancy, non-hot plug, autoswitching) or a 1200W high-efficiency power supply (optional redundancy, non-hot plug, autoswitching). The server includes four non-hot plug, non-redundant system fans for cooling.

Usage Features:

The HP ProLiant DL180 G5 is designed for ease of use and deployment in rack environments. Its 2U form factor makes it suitable for various rack configurations. The front panel includes essential indicators and controls such as an access panel, front LED indicators, a power on/off button, and two front USB ports. An optional DVD-RW or DVD-ROM drive is also accessible from the front.

Remote management is a key feature, with the optional HP Lights Out 100c Remote Management card. This card provides virtual KVM and virtual media support, along with IPMI2.0 and SMASH support, enabling administrators to manage the server remotely from anywhere via a web browser or command line interface. This includes complete remote control with graphical hardware-based remote console, access to the server's serial console, system power control, firmware and software updates, and environmental condition monitoring.

The server offers seven USB ports in total (two front, four rear, one internal) for connecting peripherals. It also includes a serial port, VGA port, and PS/2 ports for mouse and keyboard.

For rack integration, the DL180 rack models come with fixed rails that support round or square mounting holes (Compaq/HP 7000, 9000, 10000, and HP series) with an adjustment range of 26 to 36 inches. Support for 2-post Telco racks and threaded hole racks is available through an additional option kit from Rack Solutions.

Maintenance Features:

The HP ProLiant DL180 G5 is designed for easy serviceability with tooled access to all system components, simplifying in-rack maintenance.

The server is covered by a global limited warranty, supported by HP Services and a worldwide network of HP Authorized Channel Partners. Hardware diagnostic support and repair are available for one year from the date of purchase (3-1-1 warranty in AP and Brazil). Support for software and initial setup is provided for 90 days. Warranty enhancements are available through HP Care Pack services or customized service agreements, offering options like 1-Year Parts, 1-Year Labor, 1-Year Onsite support with next business day response, or enhanced services like 3-Year 13x5 Same Business Day, 4-Hour response coverage.

HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) provides a unified, secure, and extensible standards-based environment for centrally managing servers, storage, and other infrastructure devices, including both HP and non-HP equipment across multiple operating system platforms. The Rapid Deployment Pack (RDP) offers an automated deployment and provisioning solution for all ProLiant servers, supporting image capture and deployment.

Subscriber's Choice Driver and Support Alerts/Notifications is a web-based email subscription service that provides software and driver change notifications for ProLiant products, allowing users to customize their profiles for weekly or monthly alerts. The latest software, drivers, and firmware, fully optimized and tested for the ProLiant server and its options, are available through ProLiant Support Packs, the ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack, SmartStart, or downloadable from the Software and Drivers download pages website.

The server's security features include power-on and setup passwords. It adheres to industry standards such as ACPI V2.0, PCI 2.2, PXE, WOL, Microsoft Logo certifications, and IPMI 2.0.

For environmental considerations, HP offers end-of-life product return, trade-in, and recycling programs in many geographic areas, ensuring responsible disposal and recovery of materials. The server is also compliant with the EU WEEE directive (2002/95/EC), with product disassembly instructions available on the Hewlett Packard website for treatment facilities.
