Overview

This document provides a quick start guide for the Huawei B612 LTE CPE router, outlining its product overview, setup, configuration, and additional information including safety guidelines and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Huawei B612 LTE CPE is a router designed to provide Internet access via a mobile data network. It supports a micro-SIM card for mobile network connectivity and offers Wi-Fi® for wireless devices, as well as LAN/WAN ports for wired connections. The device includes a landline phone port, enabling telephone calls through the router. It also features external antenna sockets to enhance signal reception, and a WPS button for easy Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

Usage Features

Product Overview: The router features several indicators for easy monitoring:

  • Power indicator: Shows the power status of the device.
  • Network status indicator: Displays the status of the network connection.
  • Wi-Fi®/WPS indicator: Indicates Wi-Fi activity and WPS status.
  • LAN/WAN indicator: Shows the status of the LAN/WAN ports.
  • Signal strength indicator: Provides a visual representation of the mobile network signal strength, with more bars indicating a stronger signal.
  • Power input: For connecting the power adapter.
  • LAN/WAN port: For wired network connections.
  • External antenna sockets: For connecting optional external antennas to improve signal reception.
  • Landline phone port: For connecting a landline phone.
  • Reset button: To restore the router to factory settings.
  • WPS button: For Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
  • micro-SIM card slot: For inserting a micro-SIM card to access mobile networks.

Setup:

  1. SIM Card Insertion and Power Connection: Insert a micro-SIM card into the designated slot and connect the power adapter. The router will automatically power on and search for available mobile networks.
  2. Network Connection Indicators: Once connected to a network, the signal strength indicator will turn cyan, blue, or yellow, indicating a mobile network connection. White bars on the signal strength indicator signify a stronger signal.
    • Note: Do not insert or remove the micro-SIM card while the router is running to avoid performance issues or damage. To remove the SIM card, gently press it in and release.

Connecting to the Router's Wi-Fi Network: After the router connects to a mobile data network, users can connect computers or mobile phones to its Wi-Fi network. The default wireless network name (SSID) and password (Wi-Fi KEY) are found on the label on the back of the router.

  • Wi-Fi Status: A steady Wi-Fi indicator means Wi-Fi is enabled. Wi-Fi can be enabled or disabled via the router's web-based management page.
  • Security: Users are advised to promptly change the default Wi-Fi network name and password on the web-based management page to prevent unauthorized access. Reconnection will be required after changing the password.

Configuring the Router: The router can be configured using its web-based management page. The default IP address, user name, and password are provided on the label on the back of the router. More detailed information is available in the help section of the web-based management page.

  • Security Prompt: Users will be prompted to change the default login password for the web-based management page to prevent unauthorized changes to the router's settings.

Optional Configurations:

  1. Connecting Multiple Devices: The router supports connecting a computer or landline phone for Internet access and telephone calls.
  2. Installing External Antennas: External antennas can be installed to improve signal reception. If only one antenna is needed, it should be plugged into the designated socket.
    • Important: Turn off the router and unplug the power adapter before installing antennas. External antennas are for indoor use only and should not be used during thunderstorms. Only use antennas provided by the network service provider.
  3. Accessing the Internet through an Ethernet Port: The router can be connected to a wall-mounted Ethernet port using an Ethernet cable for Internet access, especially when mobile data allowance is used up. Relevant settings must be configured on the web-based management page.
  4. Downloading Huawei HiLink App: The Huawei HiLink App can be downloaded by scanning a QR code, allowing users to configure the router from their phone.

Maintenance Features

Troubleshooting:

  • Red Indicator: If the network status indicator is red after configuration, ensure the micro-SIM card is working and properly inserted. Move the router to an open space with available mobile network coverage. If issues persist, contact the network service provider.
  • Steady Cyan, Blue, or Yellow Indicator with Off Signal Indicator: This indicates poor mobile network reception. Move the router to a location with better reception.
  • Inability to Access Web-Based Management Page:
    1. Verify the computer is connected to the router via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
    2. Ensure the computer is set to obtain an IP address and DNS server address automatically.
    3. Restart the browser or try a different one.
    4. If the problem continues, restore the router to its factory settings.

Additional Information:

  • General Issues: If experiencing problems, try restarting the router, referring to the help section on the web-based management page, or restoring factory settings.
  • Customer Support: Contact the network service provider for assistance. Updated hotline and email addresses can be found on the Huawei consumer support website.

FAQs:

  • Restoring Factory Settings: When the router is on, press the reset button with a pointed object for approximately 3 seconds until the indicator blinks. This clears all customized settings.
  • Connecting via WPS: Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled on the client. Press and hold the WPS button on the router for one second to establish a 2.4 GHz WPS connection.
  • Outdated Web UI Content: Clear the browser's cache (e.g., Internet Options > General > Browsing history > Delete) and relaunch the Web UI management page to ensure up-to-date content.
