Overview

This document is an operator's manual for a Husqvarna lawn mower, model HU725AWDE / 961430115. It provides instructions for safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Husqvarna HU725AWDE / 961430115 is a walk-behind lawn mower designed for cutting grass. It can be operated in mulching, bagging, or side discharge modes. The mower is powered by a gasoline engine and features an electric start for convenience. It is designed for residential use and is capable of handling various grass conditions.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Gasoline Capacity: 1.6 Quarts (1.51 Liters) (Unleaded Regular Only). The manual specifies that gasoline containing up to 10% ethanol (E10) is acceptable for use. Using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol will void the product warranty.
  • Oil Type (API SG-SL): SAE 30 (above 32°F/0°C); SAE 5W-30 (below 32°F/0°C).
  • Oil Capacity: 18 Ounces (0.51 Liters).
  • Spark Plug (Gap: .020"/0.5mm): Champion RJ2YLE.
  • Blade Bolt Torque: 35–40 ft. lbs. (47–54 Nm).
  • Engine: The engine speed is factory-set for optimum performance and is not adjustable.
  • Cutting Height: Adjustable to three (3) height positions.

Usage Features

  • Starting: The mower features an electric start, requiring a charged battery. It also has a manual recoil starter as a backup. To start, the operator must engage the control bar and pull the starter rope (or press the electric start button).
  • Operating Modes:
    • Mulching: The mower can be converted to mulching mode by installing a mulcher door and removing the grass catcher. This mode finely chops grass clippings and returns them to the lawn as natural fertilizer.
    • Bagging: The grass catcher can be attached to collect clippings.
    • Side Discharging: A discharge deflector can be installed for side discharge, allowing clippings to be expelled from the side of the mower.
  • Cutting Height Adjustment: The wheel height adjusters allow the operator to set the desired cutting height. The manual recommends adjusting all four wheels to the same height.
  • Operator Presence Control Bar: This safety feature requires the operator to hold the control bar against the upper handle for the engine to run. Releasing the bar stops the engine and blade.
  • Mowing Tips:
    • Mulching: For best performance, keep the lawn free of trash, maintain a clean underside, and avoid cutting more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time.
    • General Mowing: Overlap cutting paths, avoid cutting wet grass, and vary mowing patterns to prevent matting.
    • Discharge: For side discharge, direct clippings away from obstacles and areas where they are not desired.
  • Fuel and Oil: Use unleaded regular gasoline with up to 10% ethanol (E10). Do not use E15 or E85. Check oil level before each use and add oil as needed.

Maintenance Features

  • Maintenance Schedule: A detailed schedule outlines routine tasks:
    • Before Each Use: Check for loose fasteners, inspect the grass catcher, check tires, check drive wheels, clean the lawn mower, check under drive cover, check drive belt/pulleys, check/sharpen/replace blade, lubricate, and clean/recharge battery.
    • After Each Use: Check engine oil level, clean air filter, check spark plug, replace air filter paper cartridge, and empty fuel system or add stabilizer.
    • Every 10 Hours: Lubricate.
    • Every 25 Hours or Season: Check engine oil level, change engine oil, clean air filter, inspect muffler, replace spark plug, replace air filter paper cartridge, and empty fuel system or add stabilizer.
    • Every 100 Hours: Check engine oil level, change engine oil, clean air filter, inspect muffler, replace spark plug, replace air filter paper cartridge, and empty fuel system or add stabilizer.
    • Before Storage: Empty fuel system or add stabilizer.
  • Blade Maintenance: The blade should be checked regularly for sharpness and damage. A dull or damaged blade should be sharpened or replaced. The blade bolt torque is critical for safety.
  • Air Filter: The air filter should be cleaned or replaced regularly to ensure proper engine performance.
  • Spark Plug: Inspect and replace the spark plug as per the maintenance schedule.
  • Water Washout Feature: The mower may include a washout port for easy cleaning of the underside of the housing. This feature allows the operator to connect a garden hose to flush out grass clippings.
  • Battery Maintenance: For electric start models, the battery needs to be charged before use and maintained during storage.
  • Storage: Before storing the mower for an extended period, it should be cleaned, the fuel system should be emptied or stabilized, and the battery should be charged. The manual provides instructions for folding the handle for compact storage.
  • Troubleshooting: A dedicated section provides common problems, their causes, and corrective actions, such as the engine not starting, loss of power, poor cut, excessive vibration, and issues with the starter rope.
