R ea der Re ady Lig ht . Th e re ad r ready li g ht is turned
on to indicate that th fir st card has b n load d into
buffer stora ge with the start key, without a l' ade r check
rror. It r mains On until the following occurs: a d e-
pr ession of the stop ke , a read I' check error, a trans-
port jam, a misfe d or an empty ho pp e r.
Re ad er Check Liaht . Th reader check li g ht is turn d
on by an unequal comparison b tween th read and
ch ck stations and by incorrect parity det cted in buff I'
stora ge during card read . 'iVhen there is an unequal
comparison, the rea der is stopped, re ady status is termi-

nat ed, and the buff r torage data just re ad cannot be
transferred to core storage on the n ex t read command.
1620 Console R ead Che ck Li g ht . Th e 1620 l' ad check
(06 ) indicator a nd console read check light ar hlrned
on by a 1620 parity error during a buffer storage to
core storag transf 1'.
1620 Console Reader 0 Feed Light. The console
read er no fe d light is turned on each tim the reader is
le cted by a read command. Th e light l' mains on, if for
an y reason the read r is not in ready status and the read
ommand th r fore cannot b xecut d. It appears to be
on almo t continuously wh n the time betwe n )' ad
calls is less than 240 ms indicating that proc ss ing time
is avail ab l e.
CARD P N H
Plinch On / Off Switch. Th e punch on/ off sw itch is
us ed to supply pow er to th punch and to turn on the
power r ady li ght. Th e 1620 pow er on/ off switch must
b on to make the 16 22 punch on/ off switch active.
Start Key. Th e sta rt key . is used to f ed cards to the
punch stat ion initia ll y or after an error and nonproce
runout , and to r e- st ab li sl re ady tatus aft l' an mpty
hopper, a misfeed, a transport jam, or a stop k de pr s-
sion.
top Key. Th top k y is us d to stop the punch fe d
at th nd of th card cycl in progr ss and / or to r e-
move the punch from I' ad statu s.
Ch e ck Re e t. Th e ch ck reset key is us d to reset error
circuits a nd turn off the punch ch ck li g ht . A sta rt key
or non proc e runout key de pr ssion follow s.
Select Stop - elect Stop S witc h. This sw it ch is
used to conh'ol th stopping of th punch wh n e IT or
ca rd s ar e scI ct ed into th pun ch rror select stack r.
With the \ itch s t to STOP , the punch f ed stops with
the error ca rd in the sel ct stack r.
ol1p rocess Run out Key. FollowinO' a punch ch ck
error, pr ssing of th nonproc s runout k rese ts the
error cir uits and caus es th punched card that is b e-
tw n the punch station and the punch ch ck station, if
it is in error, to follow th ITOI' ca rd into the select
stacker. If this card is in error, the punch ch ck light is
turned on again. Th next two (blank) cards go into th
nonselect pocke t. Th se cards should be removed b e-
fore further proc ss in g.
This k is also u ed to run out and ch ck the last
punch d card of a job. Cards must be remo ed from
th hopp er to mak the nonprocess runout k y op r a-
tiv e.
Pun ch Re ady Liaht. The punch I' ady li g ht is us ed to
indicat that th 1622 has a ca rd in punch position and
will r spond to a write command from the 1620. Th e
r ad li O' ht is turn d off by a punch ch ck error, an
em pt y hopp r, a full chip box, a ·top k y d pr ession
a h' anspo rt jam or a misfe d.
