This document describes the IDIS eSATA External Storage, a 19-inch rack-mount Serial ATA (SATA) external storage device designed for use with a Network Video Recorder (NVR). It supports up to four SATA hard drives and offers RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) functionality for enhanced data stability and performance.
Function Description:
The eSATA External Storage unit serves as an expansion for NVR systems, providing additional storage capacity and data redundancy. It can be configured in various RAID modes (0, 1+0, 5) or as a SATA Port Multiplier, allowing flexible data management based on user needs for speed, capacity, or fault tolerance.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Host Connection Interface: External eSATA port (NVR connection).
- Disk Connection Interface: Supports up to four SATA hard drives (1.5Gbps or 3.0Gbps, auto-detection).
- Max. Transfer Rate (SATA II): 3.0Gbps.
- eSATA Cable Length: Max. 2.0m.
- Dimensions (W x H x D): 18.90" x 1.73" x 13.62" (480mm x 44mm x 346mm).
- Unit Weight: 14.1 lbs. (6.4kg).
- Shipping Weight: 17.9 lbs. (8.14kg).
- Operating Temperature: 41°F to 104°F (5°C to 40°C).
- Operating Humidity: 0% to 90%.
- Power Supply: 100V~240VAC, 0.6-0.3A, 50/60Hz.
- Power Consumption: Max. 40W.
- Certifications: FCC, CE, CB, UL.
Usage Features:
- Rack-Mount Design: 19-inch rack-mount type for easy cabinet installation.
- HDD Support: Accommodates up to four SATA hard drives.
- RAID Support: Offers RAID levels 0, 1+0, and 5 for enhanced data stability and performance.
- RAID 0: Stripes data across all drives for increased speed. Data is lost if any single drive fails. Not recommended for crucial data.
- RAID 1+0: Combines RAID 1 (mirroring) and RAID 0 (striping). Saves data across two hard drives and simultaneously mirrors it on the other two. Prevents data loss with up to two drive failures, but decreases capacity by half.
- RAID 5: Saves data across three drives with distributed parity on the fourth. Preserves data if one drive fails. Offers a balance of speed, security, and higher available capacity compared to RAID 1+0 when using four drives.
- SATA Port Multiplier Mode: Allows each hard drive to be recognized and used independently without RAID. In this mode, only the D1 LED is lit in red, and D1 to D4 LEDs blink red.
- Front Panel Indicators:
- PWR (Power LED): Lit when the system is operating.
- D1 to D4 (HDD/RAID mode LED): Displays RAID mode or HDD status.
- Constant red: SATA HDD mounted.
- Blinking red: Data being transferred.
- Blinking green: RAID rebuilding in progress.
- Blinking red and green sequentially: HDD error occurred.
- Off: No SATA HDD mounted.
- eSATA (eSATA LED): Blue LED lit when connected to an NVR.
- Setup Button: Used to initialize RAID or mute audio warnings. Can be locked via a rear panel switch.
- Audio Warnings: Provides audible alerts for system status:
- Once per second: FAN error.
- Twice per second: RAID rebuilding started.
- Three times per second: HDD error.
- Five times per second: RAID initialization started.
- RAID Option Switches (Rear Panel): Configures RAID settings, including RAID TYPE 1/2, DISPLAY mode (RAID mode or HDD status), and LOCK for the Setup button.
- NVR Connection: Connects to an NVR via an eSATA cable. Specific power-up and power-down sequences must be followed to ensure proper operation and prevent malfunction.
Maintenance Features:
- RAID Initialization: Required for new hard drives or after changing RAID modes. All data on hard drives will be deleted during initialization. The unit must be disconnected from the NVR before initialization.
- RAID Rebuilding: If a hard drive fails in RAID 1+0 or RAID 5, replace it with a new one, and RAID rebuilding will begin automatically. RAID rebuilding is not supported for SATA Port Multiplier and RAID 0 modes. If multiple drives fail, rebuilding proceeds sequentially.
- Error Warning: Audio and LED indicators provide warnings for errors such as FAN errors, HDD errors, and RAID rebuilding status. The Setup button can mute audio warnings.
- Cleaning: Unplug the equipment before cleaning. Use a damp, soft cloth; do not use liquid aerosol cleaners.
- Servicing: Do not attempt to service the equipment yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
- Battery Replacement: Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced with an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to instructions.
- Environmental Considerations: Intended for indoor use only. All communication wiring must be limited to indoors.
- Power Cable Management: Route power cables to prevent tripping hazards, pinching, or abrasion. Do not install under rugs or carpets. Ensure proper grounding. Avoid overloading circuits.
- HDD Compatibility: Recommended to use specific hard drive models listed in the manual to ensure compatibility. The list is subject to change.
Safety Precautions:
- Read and follow all safety and operating instructions.
- Do not use unauthorized parts or accessories.
- Seek technical assistance for installation, use, disassembly, or repair.
- Do not use near water or in contact with water.
- Place the equipment in an upright position and ensure ventilation holes are not obstructed.
- Do not place on an unstable cart, stand, or table.
- Operate only from the specified power source.
- Disconnect power and antenna/cable during lightning storms or prolonged disuse.
- Do not overload wall outlets or extension cords.
- Do not push objects into equipment openings or spill liquids on it.
- In case of damage (power cord, liquid spill, rain/water exposure, drop, cabinet damage, or distinct change in performance), unplug and refer to qualified service personnel.
- Ensure replacement parts are specified by the manufacturer.
- Perform safety checks after service or repairs.
- Field installation should be done by a qualified service person and conform to local codes.
