Trailer tilts
while travelling
Latch has become stretched
and lost its overcentre
geometry. Trigger still works
but cannot keep handle
closed when subject to
dynamic loads.
Wheel can’t be
removed after
wheel-studs
released
Trailer jacked up under axle
or wrong technique
Jack trailer under outer ends of
cross-members (not axles) then
push bottom of wheel inwards
and top of wheel will fall
outwards.
Refit by pushing bottom of
wheel under trailer first then
top though gap between
sideplate and hub.
Scuffing of tyre
sidewalls
against
sideplates
Tyre pressures have been
allowed to drop too low.
Consult a tyre Distributor about
extent of tyre damage and
whether replacement is
necessary. Improve tyre
pressure monitoring.
STOP IMMEDIATELY. Check all
wheel bolt torques (should be
110 Mn (81 lbf.ft) for 5-stud
wheel or 88 Mn (65 lbf.ft) for 4-
stud wheels). Do not over-
tighten.
Tyres more
worn at sides
than centre
Inflate tyres to pressure shown
in 6.5.1 and review tyre
maintenance procedures
One or more
tyres won’t hold
pressure
Either slow puncture from
embedded object, leaking
valve or tyre has been used
at very low pressure and
has been damaged.
Consult a Tyre Distributor.
Bang and shock
when reversing
uphill
This is normal. Brakes
come on because of auto-
reverse function and
require a hard push from
the towing vehicle before
suddenly releasing.
Coupling Damper may be
worn out
Carry out Coupling Damper
check as described in section
6.8.3.1. Replace if necessary.
