Overview

The Immergas Zeus 24 - 28 kW is a wall-mounted, accumulation-type boiler designed for heating environments and producing domestic hot water. It features a 45-liter stainless steel boiler with a large coiled heat exchanger pipe, which significantly reduces hot water production times. The boiler is built with stainless steel casing and bottoms, ensuring long durability. Assembly concepts and welding (T.I.G.) are implemented to ensure maximum reliability. An important feature is the lower inspection flange, which allows for practical control of the boiler and coiled heat exchanger, as well as easy internal cleaning. Domestic water attachments are located on the flange cover (cold inlet and hot outlet), and a magnesium anode holder cap is included as standard for internal protection against corrosion.

Installation and Configuration:

The Zeus kW boiler is designed exclusively for wall-mounted installation. It can be installed in various configurations, affecting its classification:

  • B-type boiler: For installations where air intake is directly from the room where the boiler is installed, using the relevant terminal.
  • C-type boiler: For installations using concentric pipes or other types of pipes designed for sealed chamber boilers, for both air intake and fume expulsion.

The boiler can be installed outside in a partially protected area, meaning it is not exposed to direct weather conditions like rain, snow, or hail. For B-type configurations in partially protected locations, a specific terminal (present in the intake kit) must be used, placed on the central hole of the boiler. Air intake occurs directly from the environment, and fumes are expelled into an individual flue or directly outside. The flue pipe (vertical or horizontal) can be extended up to a maximum length of 12 meters for straight routes using insulated pipes. However, to prevent fume condensation, the length of the Ø 80 exhaust pipe should be limited to 5 meters if not insulated. For C-type configurations indoors, the boiler must only be installed with an original Immergas air intake and fume extraction system, identifiable by a specific marking indicating "not for condensing boilers." Fume exhaust pipes must not contact or be near flammable materials or cross building structures made of flammable materials.

The boiler supports various fume extraction system components, each with a Resistance Factor. This allows for calculations to verify the feasibility of different flue extraction system configurations. For correct positioning of lip seals on elbows and extensions, specific assembly directions must be followed. The fumes separator, located on the air/fumes extraction well, must be adjusted based on the type and extension of the pipework.

Electrical Connection:

The Zeus kW boiler has an IPX4D protection rating. Electrical safety is ensured by correct connection to an efficient earthing system. The manufacturer emphasizes that failure to connect to an efficient earth system or comply with standards voids responsibility for damage or injury. The electrical installation must match the maximum absorbed power specifications on the boiler data-plate. Boilers are supplied with an "X" type power cable without a plug, requiring connection to a 230V ±10%/50Hz mains supply, respecting L-N polarity and earth connection. The network must also have a multi-pole circuit breaker with a class III over-voltage category. For mains fuse replacement on the control card, a 3.15A quick-blow fuse is required. Adapters, multiple sockets, or extension leads should never be used for the main power supply.

Hydraulic Connection:

Before connecting the boiler, the heating system (pipes, radiators, etc.) must be thoroughly cleaned with special pickling or de-scaling products to remove deposits that could compromise boiler operation. Water connections should be made rationally using the couplings on the boiler template. The safety valve outlet must be connected to a discharge funnel to prevent flooding if the valve activates. The manufacturer disclaims liability for damage caused by the installation of an automatic filling system. To preserve the life and efficiency of the domestic hot water exchanger, installing a "polyphosphate proportioner" kit is recommended in areas with water characteristics that may cause scale deposits.

Gas Connection:

The boiler is designed to operate with methane gas (G20) and LPG (II2H3+ category). Supply pipes must be 1/2"G or larger. Before connecting, all fuel feed system pipes must be cleaned to remove residues. The gas type must match the boiler's preparation (as per the data-plate), or the appliance must be converted. Dynamic gas supply pressure must also be checked, as insufficient levels can reduce output. The gas supply pipe must be dimensioned according to regulations to ensure correct gas flow even at maximum generator output. The appliance is designed for gas free of impurities; if impurities are present, special filters should be fitted upstream. New LPG storage tanks may contain residual inert gases that degrade the mixture, and layering of LPG components can occur during storage, affecting heating power.

Control and Operation:

The boiler features a control panel with various LEDs and selector switches for different functions.

  • Main Selector Switch (9): Used to turn the boiler on/off, select domestic water mode, heating mode, or remote control mode.
  • Domestic Hot Water Temperature Selector Switch (10): Regulates domestic hot water temperature.
  • Heating Water Temperature Selector Switch (11): Regulates radiator temperature.
  • Boiler Manometer (12): Displays system pressure.

Optional Accessories:

  • Remote Controls and Room Chronothermostats: The boiler is prepared for these, available as separate kits. Immergas chronothermostats connect with 2 wires.
    • On/Off Digital Chronothermostat: Allows setting two room temperatures (comfort/lower), up to four on/off weekly programs, and selecting function modes. Powered by two 1.5V LR 6 alkaline batteries.
    • Remote Friend ControlV2 (CARV2) and Digital Remote Control (CRD): Offer room chronothermostat functions. The CARV2 allows controlling all important appliance and heating system information, with self-diagnosis for anomalies. It adjusts system delivery temperature to actual room needs for energy saving. The CARV2 must be used with its climate thermostat function disabled (On/Off mode) if the system is subdivided into zones. The CRD cannot be used for zoned plants.
  • External Probe: Connects directly to the boiler's electrical system, automatically decreasing max system delivery temperature as outside temperature increases. It operates regardless of the room chronothermostat type and can work with On/Off chronothermostats and CARV2.

Boiler Start-up and Ignition:

Before ignition, ensure the heating system is filled to 1-1.2 bar pressure, the gas cock is open, and the main selector switch (9) is in the desired position (Domestic/Remote Friend ControlV2 or Domestic Hot Water). A fixed light on LEDs 4-8 indicates voltage presence and output water temperature. If LEDs 4-8 flash, an anomaly is present. Domestic water and heating modes are indicated by fixed lights on LED 2 or LED 3.

Safety Features:

  • Anti-freeze Function: Activates the pump and burner when system water temperature falls below 4°C, stopping when it exceeds 42°C. This function is guaranteed if the boiler is fully operative, not in "block" status, and electrically powered.
  • Pump Anti-block Function: If the main selector is set to "domestic water," the pump starts at least once every 24 hours for 2.5 minutes. If set to "domestic water-heating," it starts every 3 hours for 2.5 minutes.
  • Three-way Anti-block System: In both domestic and domestic-heating phases, the motorized three-way group starts 24 hours after its last operation, running a full cycle to prevent blocking.
  • Radiator Anti-freeze Function: If system return water is below 4°C, the boiler starts until reaching 42°C.
  • Electronic Card Periodical Self-check: Activates every 18 hours (or within 10 minutes after a domestic drawing ends) for approximately 10 seconds to check internal system integrity.

Troubleshooting and Anomaly Signals:

The boiler signals anomalies by flashing LEDs 4-8 or LEDs 1 and 2 coupled with LED 7. Remote controls display numerical error codes (e.g., E.g. CARV2 = Exx, CRD = xxE).

  • Boiling device probe anomaly (LED 2 flashing): Indicates an NTC probe anomaly. The boiler won't start in domestic water mode but functions in heating mode.
  • Insufficient water circulation (LED 4 flashing): Occurs due to overheating from insufficient water circulation in the primary circuit, possibly due to closed shutoff devices, air in the system, or a blocked circulating pump.
  • Delivery probe anomaly (LED 5 flashing): Indicates an NTC delivery probe anomaly. The boiler won't start.
  • Ignition block (LED 6 flashing): Occurs if ignition fails within 10 seconds. The boiler attempts ignition twice, then enters "ignition block." Reset by turning the main selector switch to "Reset."
  • Safety thermostat block (over-temperature) (LED 7 flashing): Triggered by excessive internal overheating, exhaust issues, or flame control anomalies. Reset by turning the main selector switch to "Reset."
  • Fume pressure switch fault (LED 8 flashing): Occurs if intake or exhaust pipes are blocked or the fan fails.
  • Contacts resistance block (LEDs 2 and 7 flashing simultaneously): Indicates faults in the safety thermostat over-temperature.
  • Parasite flame block (LEDs 1 and 7 flashing simultaneously): Occurs due to a leak in the detection circuit or an anomaly in the flame control unit.
  • Loss of remote control communication (LEDs 2 and 3 alternating flashing): Occurs if an incompatible remote control is connected or communication is lost.

Maintenance:

  • Periodical Maintenance: Heating plants require periodical maintenance and regular energy efficiency checks as per national, regional, or local provisions. A yearly cleaning and maintenance contract is recommended.
  • Cleaning: Use damp cloths and neutral detergent for the casing. Avoid abrasive or powder detergents.
  • Temporary Shutdown: Drain the heating system if anti-freeze is not used, and shut off all electrical, water, and gas supplies.
  • Boiler Shut-down: Disconnect the main selector switch (9) to "off" position, disconnect the external omni-polar switch, and close the gas cock.
  • System Filling: Fill the system slowly via the filling valve (Fig. 2-2) to release air bubbles. Close the valve when the manometer indicates 1.2 bar.
  • Restoring Heating System Pressure: Periodically check system water pressure (1-1.2 bar). If it falls below 1 bar, restore pressure via the valve at the bottom of the boiler.
  • Draining the System: Use the special drain cock (Fig. 2-2). Ensure the filling cock is closed before draining.
  • Yearly Appliance Check and Maintenance:
    • Clean the flue side of the heat exchanger and the main burner.
    • Visually check the fume hood for deterioration or corrosion.
    • Check correct lighting and operation, and ensure correct burner calibration in domestic water and heating phases.
    • Check correct operation of control and adjustment devices, including electrical main switch, system control thermostat, and domestic water control thermostat.
    • Check internal system sealing, safety device activation (no gas ionization flame control), water leaks or oxidation, expansion tank charge (1.0 bar), system static pressure (1-1.2 bar), and integrity of safety/control devices.
    • Check the integrity of the boiler's magnesium anode and the electrical system (cables, no blackening/burning).

Programming the Circuit Board:

The Zeus kW boiler allows programming several operation parameters to adapt to specific needs. To access programming, position the main selector switch on "Reset" for 15-20 seconds until LEDs 2 and 3 flash, then re-position to "domestic water and heating." Parameters are selected by turning the domestic hot water temperature selector switch (10).

  • Minimum Heating Power: Adjusts the boiler's minimum thermal input.
  • Maximum Heating Power: Adjusts the boiler's nominal heat output.
  • Heating Switch-on Timer: Sets the time for the boiler to distribute maximum power during ignition.
  • Heating Power Output Ramp: Controls the increasing gas delivery ramp during switch-on.
  • Heating Switch-on Delay: Sets a delay for switch-on requests from room thermostats or remote controls.
  • Domestic Water Thermostat/Boiler Hysteresis: Adjusts the boiling device temperature set point.
  • Circulating Pump Function: Selects intermittent or continuous operation for the circulating pump.
  • Functioning Gas: Sets the boiler to function with specific gas types (e.g., Town Gas G110).
  • Boiler Mode: Establishes if the boiler functions in instantaneous mode or with the boiler (standard supply).

Chimney Sweep "Function":

When activated, this function forces the boiler to run at maximum output for 15 minutes, overriding all adjustments except the temperature safety thermostat and limit thermostat. It is activated by pressing the "Reset" key for 8-15 seconds in the absence of domestic water and heating requests, indicated by simultaneous flashing of LEDs (2) and (3). This allows technicians to check combustion parameters.
