Lamp Maintenance
Extending the lamp life on the LP130
In dirty or dusty environments, the dust filter screens on LP130 lamp modules can become plugged, causing
excessively high temperatures inside the lamp module. The high temperatures can cause premature lamp
failure. Routine maintenance to remove dust and dirt from the filter screens lowers the lamp operating
temperature and lengthens lamp life.
This Tech Tip describes how to clean the lamp module dust filter screens. Clean them every 200-250 hours
when the projector is used in areas with high levels of airborne contaminants like lint, dust or smoke.
You must remove the lamp from the projector to clean the dust filter screens. See the Lamp Replacement
documents or LP130 Reference Guide for instructions.
CAUTION! The lamp module gets very hot during use. Allow the lamp to cool for 60 minutes before
handling it.
Cleaning the lamp module dust filter screens
1. After you remove the lamp module, examine the condition of the dust filter screens. Two screens are
located bottom of the module near the front. Dirt and dust accumulation on the screens must be
removed.
2. Use a vacuum cleaner and a small brush to clean the screens on both sides of the lamp housing. Then
use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to lightly wipe each screen. When you've wiped each
screen, use the vacuum cleaner again to remove any remaining contaminants.
3. Before you replace the lamp, use the vacuum cleaner to remove dust and dirt from the lamp housing in
the projector.
4. Replace the lamp and lamp door.
