What to do if my Ingersoll-Rand force 5 FA5 winch will not operate?
    • R
      Ruben Hoover Jr.Aug 14, 2025
If your Ingersoll-Rand Winches winch won't operate, several issues could be the cause. First, check the air supply line connections and hoses to ensure proper air flow. The winch might be overloaded, so reduce the load to stay within the rated capacity. Also, remove any shipping plugs in the valve and motor exhaust ports. If equipped, disengage the manual drum brake. If the disc brake doesn't release, pressurize the disc brake release port, check for leaks, and replace the brake piston seals if needed. Ensure the air pressure at the disc brake inlet is at least 50 psig (3.4 bar/340 kPa).

Why does my Ingersoll-Rand Winches winch run slow?
    • W
      wbenderAug 17, 2025
If your Ingersoll-Rand Winches winch is running slower than usual, it could be due to several reasons. Check the fittings, connections, and hoses to ensure they are the correct size and length, and replace any parts that might be restricting airflow. The motor may be damaged, so it should be inspected for wear or damage. Also, refer to brakes in “MAINTENANCE” section on page 26.

What to do if my Ingersoll-Rand force 5 FA5 load continues to move when winch is stopped?
    • R
      Richard HuynhAug 21, 2025
If the load continues to move after you've stopped the Ingersoll-Rand Winches winch, the drum brake might be slipping. Check the drum brake adjustment and brake band lining wear. Another possibility is that the winch is overloaded, so reduce the load to within the rated capacity. Finally, the winch motor controls might be sticking; inspect the pendant/throttle levers to ensure they spring back to their normal (neutral) positions when released.
  • J
    Jason FieldsAug 25, 2025
What to do if the throttle lever is hard to actuate on my Ingersoll-Rand Winches?
    • T
      Thomas ParrishAug 25, 2025
If the throttle lever on your Ingersoll-Rand Winches is hard to actuate or doesn't spring back to neutral, the valve body might be sticking in the bushing. Lubricate the valve through the grease fitting with the recommended lubricant. Refer to ‘Air Throttle’ on page 19 in “LUBRICATION” section.
  • C
    Christine RobinsonAug 27, 2025
What to do if my Ingersoll-Rand force 5 FA5 Winches winch does not lift load or does not lift rated capacity?
    • D
      Donna BarnesAug 27, 2025
If your Ingersoll-Rand Winches winch isn't lifting the load or reaching its rated capacity, the motor may be damaged: it should be removed, disassembled, and inspected, replacing any worn or damaged parts. Also, ensure that the air supply pressure and volume at the winch inlet meet the specifications; clean the air line filter.
  • B
    brandonhensonAug 30, 2025
Why does my Ingersoll-Rand Winches motor runs hot or makes excessive noise during operation?
    • A
      Aaron MendozaAug 31, 2025
If your Ingersoll-Rand Winches winch motor runs hot or makes excessive noise, check the oil level in the motor and add oil if needed. The lubrication might be improper, so replace the oil with the recommended type. If there's water in the oil, drain and refill with the correct oil, then operate the winch slowly in both directions without a load. If the issue persists, the piston or connecting rod may be damaged or broken, requiring disassembly and repair.
  • C
    Christine AdamsSep 3, 2025
What to do if the brake cylinder will not release on my Ingersoll-Rand Winches?
    • S
      Steven HernandezSep 3, 2025
If the brake cylinder on your Ingersoll-Rand Winches won't release, adjust the drum brake to maintain the correct cylinder stroke. Leaking cylinder seals can also cause this, so replace or repair the cylinder if you notice air escaping from the cylinder breather. Additionally, a dirty filter in the air supply can be the culprit, so clean or replace it. Finally, check the dump valve exhaust port; air should exhaust when the control valve handle is in neutral. If no air escapes, replace the dump valve.

What to do if the throttle or pendant lever moves but Ingersoll-Rand force 5 FA5 Winches does not operate?
    • D
      David CooperSep 6, 2025
If the throttle or pendant lever moves but the Ingersoll-Rand Winches winch doesn't operate, the motor may be damaged, so it should be disassembled and cleaned, replacing any broken or damaged parts. Also, ensure that the air pressure at the winch inlet is at least 90 psig (6.3 bar/630 kPa) at the rated volume, and clean the air line filter. An air leak could also be the problem, so check hose and fitting connections, inspect hoses for breaks, and tighten or replace as needed.
  • W
    wturnerSep 9, 2025
Why do air lines freeze on my Ingersoll-Rand force 5 FA5?
    • R
      Robert RhodesSep 9, 2025
If the air lines on your Ingersoll-Rand Winches are freezing, it's likely due to water in the air supply. Install or drain air system moisture traps, moisture collecting air receivers, and compressor aftercoolers. After taking corrective action, disconnect the lines at the winch inlet and purge them with clean, dry air or nitrogen.
