Cassette Maintenance
Keep the Recording Heads Clean
Tape heads can periodically build up a coating of oxide residue from the passage of the
tape over them. We recommend you clean the heads periodically using 99% Isopropyl
Alcohol or a specially manufactured tape head cleaner. Use foam applicators or
surgical cotton applicators and clean in the direction of the tape movement.
Tape head cleaner and applicators may be purchased from any electronics dealer.
Do not use denatured alcohol, as it contains excess impurities which can damage the
tape heads.
Do not use commercial cotton swabs, as they can leave fibers which can damage the
tape heads.
Care of Cassette Tapes
Store tapes in their cases to prevent dust and dirt from coming in contact with the tape
surface.
Do not touch the tape surface with your fingers.
If the tape has unraveled, insert a pencil or similar object into the sprocket and tighten to
remove slack. (See Picture 1.)
