It is equipped with an iAdapt localization camera for navigation and can be controlled via the iRobot HOME app, allowing users to set cleaning schedules and customize preferences.
The Roomba 960 is designed to autonomously clean floors, picking up debris and navigating around obstacles. It operates on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and returns to its Home Base to recharge when the battery is low or after completing a cleaning cycle. The device features a "Dirt Detect" function, which allows it to identify areas of high debris concentration and clean them more thoroughly by moving in a forward/backward motion. For localized cleaning, the "SPOT" cleaning mode enables the Roomba to intensely clean a specific area by spiraling outward and then inward.
The Roomba 960 can be used in conjunction with a Dual Mode Virtual Wall Barrier, which helps define cleaning boundaries. This barrier has two modes: Virtual Wall Mode and Halo Mode. In Virtual Wall Mode, the device creates an invisible, cone-shaped barrier up to 10 feet long, blocking the Roomba from entering specific areas. Before operating the Roomba, users should prepare the area by picking up objects such as clothing, loose papers, power cords, and fragile items to prevent entanglement or damage. If the cleaning area includes a balcony, a physical barrier should be used to ensure safe operation. The Roomba should only be operated in room temperature environments and dry conditions.
During a cleaning cycle, the Roomba can be paused by pressing the CLEAN button once and resumed by pressing it again. To end a cleaning cycle and put the Roomba in standby mode, the CLEAN button should be pressed and held until all indicators turn off. The Roomba can also be sent back to its Home Base during a cleaning cycle by pressing CLEAN and then the DOCK button on the robot, or by using the iRobot HOME app.
The Roomba is programmed to complete its cleaning cycle even if its dust bin becomes full, though this setting can be adjusted in the iRobot HOME app. If the bin is full, the Roomba will not leave the Home Base for a cleaning cycle until the bin is emptied and reinserted.
Regular maintenance is crucial for the Roomba's peak performance. After each use, the dust bin should be emptied and the filter cleaned. The filter should be removed by grasping its yellow tab, and debris should be shaken off by tapping it against a trash container. The full bin sensors should be cleaned regularly. This involves removing and emptying the bin, then wiping the inner and outer sensor ports on the bin with a clean, dry cloth.
The front caster wheel requires periodic cleaning. It can be removed by pulling firmly, and any debris or hair wrapped around the axle should be cleared. All parts must be reinstalled correctly, ensuring the wheel clicks back into place.
The side brush should also be cleaned. A coin or small screwdriver can be used to remove the screw, allowing the brush to be removed for cleaning of both the brush and the brush post.
The sensor and charging contacts on both the Roomba and the Home Base should be wiped with a clean, dry cloth. Cleaning solutions should not be sprayed directly onto the sensors.
The debris extractors are critical components that require regular cleaning. To access them, the yellow extractor frame release tabs should be pinched, and the frame lifted. The extractors can then be removed, and the yellow extractor caps taken off to clear any hair or debris from underneath the caps and around the metal axles. Hair and debris should also be removed from the square and hexagonal plastic pegs on the other side of the extractors. After cleaning, the extractors must be reinstalled, matching the color and shape of the extractor pegs with the corresponding icons on the cleaning head module. Extractors should be cleaned every four months (or every three months in homes with pets) and replaced every 6-12 months.
For any non-routine servicing or replacement parts, users are advised to contact Uline. If the battery pack is leaking, Uline should be contacted for disposal instructions. The battery pack must be removed from the Roomba before disposal and should not be crushed, dismantled, heated, or immersed in liquid. Used battery packs should be disposed of safely in a sealed plastic bag according to local environmental regulations.
