GUIDE TO MMA WELDING
Before starng any welding acvity ensure that you have suitable eye protecon and
protecve clothing. Also take the necessary steps to protect any persons within the welding
area.
MMA arc striking
Tap Technique - Li the electrode upright and bring it down to strike the work piece. Aer forming a
short circuit, quickly li up about 2~4mm and arc will be ignited. This method is dicult to master.
Scratch technique - Drag the electrode and scratch the work piece as if striking a match. Scratching the
electrode may cause the arc to burn along the scratch path, so care should be taken to scratch in the weld
zone. When the arc is struck adopt the correct welding posion.

The electrode should be posioned at right angles to the plate and inclined in the direcon of travel at
around 10º-30º.
