The JAY-LOR 3650 is a Cutter-Mixer-Feeder, a type of agricultural machinery designed to process and mix feed ingredients for livestock. This specific model is a trailer unit, meaning it is towed by a tractor.
The primary function of the JAY-LOR 3650 is to cut, mix, and feed a total mixed ration (TMR) to livestock. Weighing System: The scale system on standard models includes (3) weighbars. The axle system incorporates two weighbars while the tongue and hitch system incorporates the third weighbar. The weighbars electronically measure the amount of ration inside the mixing chamber. The mounting assembly for most Weigh-Tronix® Scale Indicators is the same. The scale indicator is located on the front side of the upper machine frame.
Operation: The JAY-LOR 3650 is designed for easy and convenient operation. It is recommended to read the operator's manual thoroughly to understand the machine's operation and safety procedures.
Pre-Operation Checklist: Before starting, operators should check the oil level and condition of the planetary gearbox, cycle the unloading door and conveyor several times to fully charge the hydraulic system with oil, disconnect PTO driveline and turn auger by hand, check for debris and/or any other items that could block or affect machine operation, and top up tractor oil reservoir if required.
Starting and Stopping: To start, the operator should always follow the procedure of engaging the PTO clutch to start the auger, then increasing engine speed until the desired RPM is reached. To stop, the operator should close the unloading door, stop the conveyor, slow the engine to low idle, disengage the PTO clutch, and stop the engine.
Loading Feed Rations: The machine requires a specific procedure for loading feed. The operator positions the mixer where the loading machine has clear and easy access, starts the machine, and begins adding ingredients to the mixing chamber in order to cut and mix a uniform feed ration. It is important to add light and fluffy ingredients into the mixing chamber first, as heavier and denser material will force the lighter ingredients into the mixture.
Unloading Procedures: For front discharge models, the operator uses a combination of opening the unloading door, speed of the conveyor, and ground speed to distribute the feed mixture. For models equipped with center side door discharge, a similar procedure is followed.
Unplugging: If plugging or clogging of material occurs, the operator should follow specific steps: raise the unloading door, start the auger, and drive along feeding bunk/area to unload the feed mixture. If the problem persists, the operator should return the end of the conveyor on left/right discharge models. Always place controls in neutral, stop engine, set park brake, remove ignition key, and wait for all moving parts to stop before attempting to unplug.
Transporting: The machine is designed to be easily and conveniently moved from location to location. When transporting, operators must ensure all bystanders are clear, the unit is hitched positively to the towing vehicle with a retainer in the drawbar pin and a safety chain, and the SMV (Slow Moving Vehicle) emblem and all lights and reflectors are clean and visible. Do not allow riders on the machine or tractor. The unit should not be transported for long distances when the mixing chamber is fully loaded. Transporting will compact the mixture and can make startup difficult. The machine should not be transported faster than 15 km/hr (10 mph).
General Maintenance: Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the JAY-LOR 3650. The manual provides detailed instructions for various maintenance tasks.
Gearbox Lubrication: The gearboxes use synthetic oil as their lubricant. The oil reservoir on the right side of the upper frame assembly contains the lubricant for the gearboxes. The oil has a colorant added, which makes the fluid level more visible in the reservoir. The acrylic reservoir has decals indicating the maximum and minimum oil level range under normal operating conditions. The oil reservoir has a filter/breather located on the top, which must be attached to the reservoir at all times.
Shear Bolt Protected Driveline: The driveline is protected by a shear bolt. If excessive loads are placed on the driveline, the shear bolt will rupture. This is a safety feature to prevent damage to the PTO shaft. If the shear bolt breaks, it must be replaced with the correct bolt specified by the manufacturer.
Storage: For periods of storage, the machine should be thoroughly inspected and prepared. This includes washing the entire machine, inspecting all drives and moving parts for entanglement, lubricating all grease points, raising the conveyor to its maximum height, applying grease to exposed cylinder rams, touching up paint nicks, moving the machine to its storage position, selecting an area that is dry, level, and free of debris, placing planks under the jack for added support if required, unhooking the machine from the tractor, blocking the wheels, and considering using the original packaging if available.
