REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Move the shift lever until the upper shift rod
engages the
lower shift
rod
connector. While hold-
ing the lower shift rod connector, tighten the upper
shift rod connector
securely.

Install the port and starboard water intake screens
with water intake
holes positioned at the rear of
gearcase. Tighten both screws
securely.

Confirm proper shift
control operation.

Adjust the shift lever (actuator cam) and the neu-
tral start switch. Refer to Shift Linkage Adjust-
ment on
p.177,
and NEUTRAL START

MODELS
Rotate the propeller shaft and move the shift lever
to shift gearcase into NEUTRAL position.
Loosen both shift
lever screws.
Adjust the shift
lever to align with the centerline of
the crankshaft.
Tighten the shift
lever screws to a torque to
60
to
84
in
. Ibs. (7 to 9 N·m).
