Overview

This document describes the JVC DT-V24L1D, DT-V24L1, DT-V20L1D, and DT-V20L1 Multi Format LCD Monitors, providing instructions for installation, daily operations, connections, menu configuration, external control, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

The JVC Multi Format LCD Monitor is designed for professional video applications, offering a range of features for precise image display and control. It can be used in controlled EMC environments such as broadcasting studios or in rural outdoor settings, away from strong electromagnetic interference.

Function Description

The monitor serves as a display unit for various video signals, including HD/SD SDI, DVI, composite, and analog component/RGB signals. It features a multi-format LCD panel capable of displaying high-resolution images. Key functions include:

  • Image Adjustment: Users can adjust contrast, brightness, phase, chroma, and color density to optimize picture quality. The monitor also offers a "Moving Picture" function to reduce lag, a common characteristic of LCDs, and controls for aperture frequency and level to compensate for luminance signals.
  • Aspect Ratio Control: The monitor allows users to switch between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, useful for adapting to different source materials or display requirements.
  • Input Selection: Multiple input select buttons enable quick switching between various video sources, including SDI 1, SDI 2, DVI, Composite/RGB, Video 1, and Video 2.
  • Audio Monitoring: Equipped with stereo speakers and audio output terminals, the monitor allows for monitoring of analog audio signals and embedded audio signals from SDI inputs. An audio level meter can be displayed to check audio conditions.
  • Marker Functions: The "AREA MARKER" and "SAFETY MARKER" functions help in framing and ensuring content fits within broadcast-safe areas, with adjustable aspect ratios and sizes.
  • Screen Check: A "SCREENS CHECK" button allows users to display individual red, green, or blue elements of the video signal, aiding in calibration and quality control.
  • I/P Mode Selection: Different I/P (interlace/progressive) modes (Normal, Cinema, Field) can be selected to match the input picture characteristics.
  • Time Code Display: For SDI signals, the monitor can display time code data.
  • Tally Lamp: A tally lamp on the front panel indicates the monitor's status and can be controlled externally, with selectable colors (green, red) and blinking times.
  • External Control: The monitor supports external control via MAKE/TRIGGER system (contact closure), RS-232C, and RS-485 serial communication, allowing integration into larger control systems. This enables remote control of various functions like input switching, aspect ratio, marker displays, and more.
  • Status Display: The monitor can display various status information, including signal format, color temperature, source name, and CRC error indications, which can be configured to appear automatically or on demand.
  • Control Lock: A control lock function disables front panel buttons to prevent accidental changes, while still allowing external control and basic operations like power on/off and menu access for unlocking.

Usage Features

  • Stand Installation: The monitor can be used on a supplied stand, allowing for tilt adjustments (approximately 6° upward to 6° downward) and height adjustments (up to about 148°). The stand should be securely fixed to a table or floor to prevent accidental falls.
  • Rack Installation: For DT-V20L1D and DT-V20L1 models, the monitor can be installed in a rack using a JVC RACK MOUNT ADAPTER (RK-C20L1), after detaching the stand.
  • Menu Navigation: The monitor features an intuitive menu system accessible via front panel buttons. Users can navigate through main and set-up menus to configure various settings, including picture adjustments, audio settings, sync functions, remote control parameters, and information display.
  • Audio Channel Selection: For models with embedded audio, specific audio channels can be selected for output through the speakers and MONITOR OUT terminals.
  • Power Cord Holder: A provided power cord holder helps prevent accidental disconnection of the AC power cord.
  • Security Slot: A security slot is available for installing a security wire to deter theft.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues like no power, no picture, no sound, incorrect color, blurred picture, or wrong picture position/size. It also describes a self-check program that alerts users to malfunctions by flashing INPUT SELECT lamps.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: Before cleaning, the monitor should be unplugged from the wall outlet.
    • Screen: To avoid damage, the screen should not be touched with glues, adhesives, or hard objects, nor wiped with solvents like alcohol, thinner, or benzine. It should be cleaned with a soft dry cloth, a soft damp cloth, or a soft cloth soaked in water-diluted neutral detergent and wrung well.
    • Cabinet: The cabinet should not be cleaned with solvents, exposed to volatile substances, or have rubber/plastic in contact for long periods. Stains should be wiped with a soft cloth, or a soft cloth soaked in water-diluted neutral detergent and wrung well for heavy stains.
  • Ventilation: Dust around the ventilation openings should be removed regularly using a vacuum cleaner or a cloth to ensure proper temperature control and prevent damage.
  • Hour Meter: The monitor includes a "HOUR METER" that displays the total hours of use, which is useful for maintenance tracking. There is also a "SUB HOUR METER" that can be reset.
  • All Reset Function: The "all reset" function in the set-up menu restores all settings and adjustments to their default values, except for the hour meter and adjustments made via front panel knobs.
  • Replacement Parts: When replacement parts are required, only manufacturer-specified or equivalent parts should be used to avoid hazards. Safety checks should be performed after any service or repairs.
