Overview

The Kaba Mas Cencon 4 is a high-security electronic safe lock system designed for managing users and locks, offering robust security, safety, and convenience. It is part of the Kaba group, a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic safe locks. This guide details the installation, setup, and maintenance of the Cencon 4 software and associated hardware.

Function Description:

The Cencon 4 system provides comprehensive management for electronic safe locks. Its core functions include:

  • User Management: Creating, editing, and assigning authorization roles to users, including Special Supervisors, Supervisors, and Dispatchers.
  • Lock Management: Activating and configuring locks, managing lock groups, and restricting lock dispatches.
  • Audit and Reporting: Generating various reports such as Activity Report, Lock Log History Report, User History Report, and Bank Branch Report to track operations and user activities.
  • Database Management: Setting up, upgrading, and maintaining the Cencon database, including estimating space requirements, configuring ODBC connections, and importing data from previous Cencon versions (1.5.X and CenBank).
  • Security Features: Utilizing Smart Keys for logon authentication, encrypting Company IDs, and supporting both SmartKey and Windows logon authentication methods.
  • Regional Control: Grouping users, locks, and routes into specific regions, allowing for global or restricted data access based on user permissions.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Software Version: Cencon 4.0.0.1252 (as referenced in the document).
  • Operating System Requirements: IBM compatible PC running Windows (XP, Vista, or 7, with latest service levels recommended). Windows Vista systems updated via Windows Update may be upgraded to Windows 7.
  • RAM: Minimum 2 GB RAM.
  • Hard Drive: At least 50 megabytes of free disk space. Upgrading from previous Cencon versions requires ample disk space for database growth.
  • CD-ROM Drive: Required for software installation.
  • USB Port: Available USB 2.0 compliant port for the Kaba Mas USB Key Box. Some computers, especially laptops, may require a powered USB hub if sufficient power is not provided by the internal USB port.
  • Database Management System (DBMS): Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP2 (and above) or SQL Server 2008 (including SQL Server Express, Standard, and Enterprise editions). The SQL Server installation does not have to be on the same computer as Cencon.
  • ODBC Driver: An ODBC driver for the DBMS must be installed on the system running Cencon. The system supports SQL Native Client (Version 09.00.4035 as shown in examples).
  • Network Protocols: Supports Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) for database connections.
  • Key Box: Cencon USB Key Box (Model 202201) and Cencon PCIO PCI Card are supported security devices.
  • Smart Keys: Includes 2 red SA Keys, 3 black Logon Keys, 1 white Clock Set Key (for Gen2 locks), and 1 grey ReSync Key (for Gen2 locks).
  • Installation Key: Orange key (p/n 202202) programmed for installation, uniquely coded and tagged per company.
  • Mode Authorization Licenses: Bank Mode (p/n 201191 with 2 green B keys), FLM Mode (p/n 201192 with 2 blue F keys), Route Mode (p/n 201193 with 2 yellow R keys).
  • User Passwords: Case sensitive, up to 64 characters long, and can contain specific alphanumeric and special characters.

Usage Features:

  • Intuitive Installation Wizard: Guides users through the software installation process, including prerequisites, hardware drivers, and Cencon software.
  • Database Setup Utility: A dedicated utility for creating, updating, or performing maintenance on the Cencon database. It allows for importing data from older Cencon versions and configuring database settings.
  • Company ID: A unique four-digit number chosen by the user to identify their company, which is encrypted and cannot be changed once set. This ID is crucial for activating locks and for multi-branch operations.
  • Logon Authentication: Supports logon using a physical SmartKey (black logon key) inserted into the Key Box reader or via Windows authentication. The SmartKey user is required, while Windows user is optional.
  • Configuration Settings: Allows administrators to configure system-wide settings such as enabling lock groups, regions, user nickname expiration, and user-defined fields for locks and users.
  • Preferences Settings: Enables setting local PC preferences like help files directory, default route file directory, map locations, and language.
  • Reference Manual: Accessible via the Help button or Start menu, providing detailed instructions and best viewed as a web page.

Maintenance Features:

  • Database Conversion and Estimation: The Cencon Database Estimator helps calculate the additional disk space needed when converting older Cencon databases to the Cencon 4 format. It provides estimates for database growth, log growth, and checks if the drive has sufficient space.
  • ODBC Connection Modification: After database creation, the ODBC connection can be modified to change the default database to the newly created Cencon 4 database.
  • Data Validation: The Database Setup Utility includes a Data Validation window to scan for and correct errors in existing Cencon data, especially recommended after importing data.
  • Software Updates: The system allows for upgrades to new versions of Cencon.
  • Removal of Previous Software: Provides instructions for safely removing older Cencon software versions, ensuring that existing data files are not affected if the upgrade to Cencon 4 was successful and data migrated.
  • Driver Installation: The Cencon Driver Installer automatically sets up drivers for the Cencon USB Key Box and PCIO PCI Card, preinstalling them even if devices are not present for future connection.
  • Backup Recommendations: Emphasizes archiving and backing up the current Cencon database before installing a new version.
