Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Kansai Special SX Series industrial sewing machines, specifically models SX6803PD (Differential feed) and SX6803P (Plain feed). It provides comprehensive details on the machine's specifications, setup, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Kansai Special SX Series machines are high-speed, feed-off-the-arm industrial sewing machines designed for double chainstitch operations. The SX6803PD model features a differential feed mechanism, while the SX6803P model uses a plain feed. These machines are used for industrial sewing applications, producing JIS401 double chainstitches.

Important Technical Specifications

General Specifications

  • Stitch Type: JIS401 double chainstitch.
  • Needles: TV×3 (Schmetz or Organ). Recommended needle sizes range from Nm90 (#14) to Nm140 (#22), depending on fabric and thread.
  • Machine Speed:
    • Maximum speed: 4,500 spm (stitches per minute).
    • Normal use speed: 4,000 spm.
    • Break-in period (first 200 hours/1 month): 3,500 spm for durability.
  • Motor & Belt:
    • Motor: 3-phase, 2-pole, 400W clutch motor.
    • Belt: M type V belt.
    • Motor pulley outer diameter determines machine speed (e.g., 75mm for 3500SPM at 60Hz, 110mm for 4500SPM at 60Hz). Belt deflection should be 1-2cm at the mid-point.
  • Stitch Length:
    • Adjustable from 2.1mm to 4.2mm without steps.
    • Stitches per inch (25.4mm) range from 6 (4.2mm length) to 12 (2.1mm length).

Feed Dog & Stitch Length (SX6803PD - Differential Feed)

  • Feed Dog Height: When the main feed dog is at its highest position, the first tooth from the front should be 1.5mm above the needle plate.
  • Differential Feed Ratio:
    • Normal differential feed (gathering effect): Maximum ratio 1:1.3 (lever A at reading "9").
    • Reverse differential feed (stretching effect): Maximum ratio 1:0.7 (lever A at reading "1").

Feed Dog & Stitch Length (SX6803P - Plain Feed)

  • Feed Dog Height: When the main feed dog is at its highest position, the first tooth from the front should be 2mm above the needle plate.

Looper Timing & Needle Relationship

  • Looper Setting Distance: With loopers at the extreme left end of travel, distance from each needle center to each looper point should be approximately 3.6mm.
  • Needle Height: When looper points pass behind needles at needle centers, distance from looper points to top of needle eyes should be 1.5-2.0mm.
  • Needle Holder Torque: 20kgf·cm.
  • Needles/Loopers Front-to-Back Relationship: Looper should be as close as possible to the needle without contact when passing behind it.
  • Needle Guard: Should deflect the needle by 0-0.5mm when the looper point reaches the needle centerline. The needle must touch the needle guard surface until the looper point passes the right side of the needle.

Presser Foot

  • Presser Foot Pressure: Adjustable to be as light as possible while ensuring uniform stitches and proper fabric feeding.
  • Presser Foot Lift: Clearance between presser foot link C and screw D should be approximately 0.5mm when the presser foot is rested on the needle plate.
  • Thread Releaser Shaft: Upper part of thread releaser pin should be positioned between top and bottom thread tension disks when the presser foot lift pedal is not pressed.

Feed Roller

  • Feed Roller Clearance: Approximately 0.1mm clearance between the feed roller and the needle plate to prevent wear.
  • Interlock with Presser Foot: Feed roller is factory-set to be raised shortly after the presser foot is raised.

Usage Features

Installation

  • Detailed instructions and diagrams are provided for cutting the machine table (Type A, B, and C for clutch and servo motors), installing the mount base, the machine itself, and the pulley cover.

Needle Replacement

  • Needles (TV×3) must be installed with the scarf turned to the rear of the machine.
  • Always turn off the power before replacing needles. Clutch motors may continue running, so keep pressing the pedal until it stops.

Threading

  • Clear illustrations guide correct threading of needle and looper threads.
  • A looper drawing device allows laying the looper holder down (by pressing button G when the needle bar is at the bottom of its stroke) for easier looper threading.

Lubrication

  • Oil Type: Kansai Special's genuine oil (Part No. 28-617).
  • Filling Oil: Fill reservoir until oil level reaches the top line on oil gauges E and D. Maintain level between lines. Check oil splashing in sight windows C and F.
  • Priming Pump: If idle for some time, remove plug screws G and apply oil from an oil can while operating until bubbling is observed.
  • Small Oil Amounts: Specific points require small amounts of oil as illustrated.
  • Oil Replacement: Replace entire oil after the first 200 hours of operation, then every 6 months. Drain oil by removing screws I and J. Contaminated oil shortens machine life.

Adjustments

  • Looper Timing: Factory-set but requires readjustment if needle bar or looper mechanisms are disassembled or new parts are used. Involves using a test bar and timing gauge to achieve a 0.1mm clearance.
  • Feed Dog Adjustments:
    • SX6803PD (Differential Feed): Involves adjusting the eccentric pin for height, assembling feed dogs, and adjusting the feed rocker arm to prevent contact with the needle plate slots. Differential feed ratio is adjusted via an outside lever.
    • SX6803P (Plain Feed): Involves setting feed dog height, ensuring front-to-back centering, and adjusting stitch length.
  • Presser Foot Adjustments: Pressure, lift, and thread releaser shaft position are adjustable to optimize fabric feeding and stitch quality.
  • Feed Roller Adjustments: Movement amount and pressure are adjustable. An interlock mechanism ensures the feed roller and presser foot lift simultaneously, with adjustable timing.
  • Stitch Formation Adjustments: Needle thread tension (by adjusting needle thread eyelet position) and looper thread tension (by adjusting looper thread take-up cam timing) are critical for proper stitch formation.

Maintenance Features

Preventive Maintenance

  • The manual emphasizes referring to the parts list in addition to this manual for preventive maintenance.

Oil Filter Cleaning

  • Before replacing oil, remove reservoir K, clean the cylinder, inside of the reservoir, and filter element.
  • Remove the oil pump and clean filter element L. Contaminated parts can impair proper oiling.

Daily Cleaning

  • At the end of each day, remove the presser foot and needle plate.
  • Clean the slots of the needle plate and the area around the feed dogs.

Serial Number Indication

  • The manual includes a diagram explaining the serial number format, which indicates the model, serial number, date of manufacture, and zip code.

This manual serves as a critical resource for operators and technicians to ensure the efficient, safe, and long-lasting operation of Kansai Special SX Series industrial sewing machines.
