Overview

This document serves as both an instruction and installation manual for an induction hob, model KNI-603S1. It emphasizes safety, proper installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring users can safely and effectively utilize their new appliance.

Function Description

The induction hob is a modern cooking appliance that uses electromagnetic vibrations to generate heat directly in the pan, rather than heating the glass surface indirectly. This makes induction cooking a safe, advanced, efficient, and economical technology. The hob features multiple cooking zones, including a flexible zone, and various power settings, including a "Boost" function for rapid heating. It is designed for household and similar applications, such as staff kitchen areas, farmhouses, hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast environments.

Usage Features

The induction hob is operated via touch controls, which respond to finger touch without requiring pressure. A beep confirms each touch. The controls must be kept clean and dry for optimal operation.

  • Starting the Hob: To begin cooking, the ON/OFF control is touched. The hob enters standby mode, indicated by a " - " on all displays.
  • Pan Detection: A suitable pan must be placed on the desired cooking zone. If the display flashes "U" or "5" alternately with the heat setting, it indicates that no pan is present, the pan is unsuitable for induction, or it is too small/not properly centered. Heating will only occur with a suitable pan. The display will turn off automatically after 2 minutes if no suitable pan is detected.
  • Power Level Adjustment: After selecting a heating zone, the indicator next to it flashes "0". The power level can be adjusted from 0-9 by sliding the control from left to right to increase power, and right to left to decrease it.
  • Boost Function: This feature allows a selected cooking area to operate at a higher power (maximum power) for 5 minutes, enabling faster cooking, especially for large volumes of water. The power display shows "P" during Boost mode. After 5 minutes, the power returns to level 9. The Boost can be canceled earlier by selecting the zone and pressing the Boost button again.
  • Flex Zone: This area can be used as one large cooking area or two separate areas. It consists of two independent inductors. When used as a single area, a cooking utensil can be moved without losing the power level. It's important to center pans on the independent cooking areas or ensure large/oval/rectangular pans cover both cross points in the middle of the homes when using the combined flex zone.
  • Timer Function: The hob includes a timer that can be set for up to 99 minutes to turn off one or more cooking zones automatically. To set the timer for a single zone, select the zone, touch the timer control (which will flash "30" initially), and slide to adjust the time. For multiple zones, the timer indicator will show the lowest set time, and a red dot next to the power level indicator will flash to indicate the selected zone.
  • Locking Controls: The child lock control allows users to lock the controls to prevent unintended use, such as by children. When locked, all controls except ON/OFF are disabled. The timer indicator will show "Lo". To unlock, touch and hold the child lock control.
  • Finishing Cooking: To switch off a heating zone, touch its selection control and slide the power level to "0". The entire cooktop can be turned off by touching the ON/OFF control.
  • Hot Surface Indicator: After cooking, "H" will appear on the display for zones that are hot to touch. This disappears when the surface cools to a safe temperature and can also be used as an energy-saving function to heat further pans.
  • Over-Temperature Protection: A temperature sensor monitors the hob's internal temperature. If excessive temperature is detected, the hob will automatically stop operation.
  • Detection of Small Articles: The hob has an auto shut-down safety feature that activates if cooking is left unattended. Default working times vary by power level.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and performance of the induction hob.

  • General Cleaning: For everyday soiling like fingerprints, marks, or non-sugary spills, switch off the hob, apply a cooktop cleaner while the glass is still warm (but not hot), rinse, and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Avoid heavy-duty scourers or harsh abrasive cleaning agents, as they can scratch the glass. Always read cleaner labels for suitability.
  • Boilovers and Sugary Spills: These should be removed immediately with a fish slice, palette knife, or razor blade scraper, being cautious of hot surfaces. Switch off the hob, scrape the spill to a cool area, clean with a dishcloth or paper towel, and then follow the steps for general cleaning. Prompt removal prevents permanent damage to the glass.
  • Spills on Touch Controls: If liquid spills on the touch controls, the hob may beep and turn off, and the controls may not function. Switch off the hob, soak up the spill, wipe the control area with a clean damp sponge or cloth, dry completely with a paper towel, and then switch the hob back on.
  • Cookware Care: Always lift pans off the hob; do not slide them to prevent scratching the glass. Use cookware with flat and smooth bases to avoid scratching.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues like the hob not turning on, unresponsive controls, scratched glass, or unusual noises. It also lists error codes (e.g., F3/F4, F9/FA, E1/E2, E3, E5) and their possible causes and solutions, advising users to contact the supplier for technical faults and never to disassemble the unit themselves.

The manual also includes cooking guidelines for various tasks, such as simmering rice, searing steak, and stir-frying, with recommended heat settings to help users achieve optimal results. It emphasizes the importance of using induction-compatible cookware and centering pans on the cooking zones for best efficiency.
