Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the assembly, care, and troubleshooting of the Kenroy Home Royal Wall Fountain, model 51043SNDST. It is designed to guide users through setting up their water feature and maintaining it for optimal performance and longevity.

Function Description

The Kenroy Home Royal Wall Fountain is a decorative water feature designed to bring peaceful displays to indoor or outdoor living spaces. It is specifically designed for wall mounting, making it a suitable aesthetic addition to various environments. The fountain features a lion's head design from which water flows into a basin, creating a calming visual and auditory experience. It includes a pump to circulate water and a light for enhanced visual appeal, especially in low-light conditions. The water flow can be adjusted to control the speed of the water, allowing for customization of the fountain's ambiance.

Usage Features

The fountain is designed for both indoor and outdoor use, offering flexibility in placement. However, users are advised that splashing may occur, especially indoors, and should consider this when choosing a location.

Location Selection:

  • The fountain is intended for wall mounting and should be hung on a flat surface for best results.
  • When selecting a location, consider proximity to a power source. The pump and light cords extend 8 feet from the bottom of the fountain body and require connection to a grounded 110V outlet.
  • For outdoor use, consider weather conditions. If temperatures are expected to drop below 33°F, the fountain should be "winterized" to prevent damage.

Assembly and Installation:

  • The assembly process involves securing the bottom basin to the main fountain body using screws.
  • The pump and light are placed within the basin, and their cords are routed through a designated hole at the back, which is then covered.
  • Installation requires mounting a bracket to the wall. Users will need to drill pilot holes and insert anchors (unless fastening to studs) before securing the bracket with screws. The fountain then hangs on this bracket.
  • Optional cord channels and covers are provided to neatly conceal the power cords along the wall, enhancing the aesthetic integration of the fountain. These channels are also secured to the wall with screws and anchors.

Operation:

  • Before operation, the reservoir must be filled with 1.26 gallons of distilled water, ensuring the water level is between the designated fill lines. Distilled water is recommended to minimize mineral deposits, bacteria, and algae buildup.
  • Splash guards are to be placed into the fountain body.
  • The light connectors (if applicable) are to be connected and tightened.
  • The light transformer and pump are plugged into outlets. The light can be turned on via a switch.
  • A water flow control valve located on the back of the fountain body allows users to adjust the speed of the water flow.
  • The light operates independently of the pump, meaning the pump can run even if the light is off.

Water Management:

  • The fountain requires a specific water level to ensure the pump is fully submerged and functions correctly. Fill lines are provided to guide users.
  • Due to evaporation, the water level will recede over time. The frequency of refilling depends on environmental factors such as humidity and sun exposure, as well as how often the fountain is run. Regular checking of the water level is recommended.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the Kenroy Home Royal Wall Fountain.

Pump Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: The pump should be unplugged from the electrical outlet for cleaning. A small soft brush or a stream of water can be used to remove debris from the rotor/impeller, impeller cover, regulator, filter/front cover, and suction cup.
  • Water Quality: Periodically changing the water helps prevent algae buildup. Distilled water is recommended to reduce mineral deposits, bacteria, and algae, which can damage the basin and pump.
  • Troubleshooting Pump Issues:
    • Pump failure to run: This could be due to overheating (the pump has an overheating protection feature and will turn off if too hot or not covered by water), air lock (unplugging and replugging the pump several times can clear trapped air), circuit breaker issues, kinks or obstructions in tubing, or algae buildup. Users should also check the impeller area for breakage or jamming.
    • Low flow rate, spewing, or "burping": This often indicates insufficient water level. Ensure the pump is completely submerged and the water is above the minimum fill line.
    • Abnormal noise: If the pump is making loud noises, ensure it is fully submerged and not pulling in air. Check that the pump is not touching any part of the water feature other than the bottom; if it is, reposition it or place soft material (like a sponge) to pad it and reduce vibration.
    • Cleaning the pump: Disconnect power, remove the pump cover/filter, gently pull out the impeller/rotor assembly, and rinse it and its cavity with clean water. If a sponge filter is present, rinse it as well. Algae buildup can be flushed with a garden hose.

Fountain Cleaning:

  • Oils, dirt, and algae can accumulate on the water feature. To clean, empty all water, then use a mild soap (like dish detergent) and an acrylic brush to clean all parts.
  • If water flow is uneven, it may be due to oil or dirt from hands or the environment. A water guiding pad (if included) or a mildly abrasive scrub pad with mild soap can be used to clean the surface.

General Maintenance:

  • Electrical Safety: Always disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance or working with the water feature to reduce the risk of electrical shock.
  • Splashing: Be aware that splashing may occur when the fountain is first turned on. Protect surrounding surfaces as needed. Avoid placing the fountain on surfaces that can be damaged by water.
  • Child and Pet Safety: Keep small children and pets away from the water feature to prevent accidental falls and drowning.
  • Moisture Inspection: Inspect the water feature, floor, and adjacent wall weekly for moisture buildup, especially in humid environments, and clean as necessary.
  • Leveling: For proper water flow, the fountain must be level. If placed on uneven ground, use a level and leveling shims (wedge-shaped plastic parts) to create a level surface.
  • Tubing Length: If the tubing is too long, it can be cut to the desired length with a sharp blade or scissors.

Winterization (for outdoor use in cold climates):

  • Fully drain all water from the feature.
  • Disconnect hoses, pumps, and lights.
  • Thoroughly clean all components, paying special attention to the pump to prevent residue buildup.
  • Allow all parts to dry completely.
  • Store all parts and the water feature in a safe, weather-free environment.

The manual also addresses frequently asked questions, providing further guidance on selecting a water feature, water type, and troubleshooting common issues.
