Overview

This document is a care and instruction manual for the Kenroy Home Oswego Solar Fountain (Model: 51026WDGCOPSOL).

Function Description

The Kenroy Home Oswego Solar Fountain is a freestanding water feature designed for outdoor use. It provides a peaceful display of flowing water, enhancing homes or outdoor living spaces. The fountain operates using solar power, with a solar panel that charges a battery to run the pump and LED light. The LED light illuminates only at night, adding an aesthetic element to the fountain's operation.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Water Capacity: The reservoir (B) requires 3.3 gallons of distilled water, filled slightly above the minimum fill line.
  • Solar Panel Cord Length: The pump and light cords extend 13 feet from the base of the fountain to the solar panel, allowing for flexible placement of the solar panel in direct sunlight.
  • Battery Life: The rechargeable battery, when fully charged, is expected to last up to six hours. Performance is directly influenced by the amount and strength of received sunlight.
  • Battery Replacement Part: BATTERY2300.
  • Operating Temperature: The fountain is rated for outdoor use, but should be "winterized" if temperatures are expected to drop below 33°F.

Usage Features

  • Outdoor Use Only: This water feature is specifically designed for outdoor environments and cannot be used indoors.
  • Freestanding Design: Its design is attractive from all sides, allowing it to be a focal point in any area.
  • Solar Powered: The fountain is powered by a solar panel, which requires direct sunlight to charge the internal battery and operate the pump and light. The solar panel can be placed independently of the fountain's base, as long as it receives direct sunlight.
  • LED Lighting: Equipped with an LED light that automatically illuminates at night, providing ambient lighting for the water feature. The lights cannot be turned off separately from the water feature's operation.
  • Easy Assembly: The manual provides clear, step-by-step instructions for assembly, including placing the reservoir onto the base, feeding cords through the plastic tube, attaching the pump to the rubber hose, inserting cords into the hole plug, placing the column assembly, and assembling the solar panel stake.
  • Location Flexibility: The solar panel's 13-foot cord allows for optimal placement in direct sunlight, even if the fountain itself is in a partially shaded area.
  • Leveling: Shims (I) are provided to ensure the fountain is level on uneven surfaces, which is critical for proper water flow.
  • Pump Operation: The pump operates once the solar panel's battery is sufficiently charged and the switch on the back of the solar panel is pressed.
  • Cord Management: Cords are designed to be fed through a plastic tube and exit through a notch in the base for a tidy appearance.

Maintenance Features

  • Water Quality: Distilled water is highly recommended to minimize mineral deposits, bacteria, and algae buildup, which can damage the basin and pump. If distilled water is not used, more frequent maintenance will be required.
  • Water Level Monitoring: Regularly check the water level to ensure the pump is fully submerged, preventing damage. The reservoir should be filled slightly above the minimum fill line.
  • Algae Prevention: Periodically change the water to prevent algae buildup.
  • Cleaning:
    • For general cleaning, empty all water, use a mild soap (like dish detergent), and an acrylic brush to clean all parts.
    • The solar panel surface can be cleaned with water or glass cleaner.
    • Weekly inspection of the water feature, floor, and adjacent walls for moisture buildup and cleaning is recommended, especially in humid environments.
  • Pump Troubleshooting & Cleaning:
    • If the pump fails to run, check for direct sunlight on the solar panel, tubing kinks/obstructions, connections between pump/panel/battery, and clean the pump.
    • To clean the pump: Disconnect power, remove front cover and impeller cover, gently pull out the impeller/rotor assembly, and rinse it and the cavity with clean water using a soft brush.
    • If the pump makes abnormal noise, ensure it is fully submerged, not touching the water feature walls, or try placing a soft material between the pump and the water feature to dampen vibrations.
  • Battery Maintenance:
    • Rechargeable battery packs become less efficient over time. To prolong battery life and boost charge, leave the solar panel switched off in direct sunlight for 2-3 sunny days occasionally.
    • Battery replacement involves unscrewing six screws from the back of the solar panel, disconnecting wire connectors, replacing with a new BATTERY2300, and reconnecting. Dispose of old batteries according to local regulations.
  • Winterization: Before cold weather (below 33°F), fully drain the water feature, disconnect hoses, pumps, solar panel, and lights. Clean all components thoroughly, allow them to dry, and store them in a safe, weather-free environment.
  • Tube Adjustment: If the plastic tube is too long, it can be cut to the desired length with a sharp blade or scissors.
