TheUSBconnectionenablesMIDIconnectionandcommunicationbetweentheinstrument
andapersonalcomputer.Inparticular,whenisconnectedtoaMasterdevice,itis
abletousepowerdirectlyfromtheconnection.Theconnectionaloneistherefore
sufficienttoswitchtheinstrumentonandsetitintheselectedoperatingmode.Thefirsttime
thatisconnectedtoacomputer’sport,itisdetectedandinstalledautomaticallyby
thesystem.Thedeviceisrecognisedbythepersonalcomputerasawiththree
differentvirtualMIDIports.Thereactionofsuchportsisbasicallyidenticaltotherealports
atthebackoftheinstrument.TheMIDIdataareexchangedbetweentheinstrumentand
thePCviaUSBtobeabletoexploittheinstrumentalsoasaMIDIinterface.Supposingindeed
youhaveaMasterkeyboardwiththeclassicMidiOutconnector(five-pole)andyouwantto
connectittoaComputerthatdoesnothavethededicatedMidiInconnector.Toresolvethe
problem,simplyinstalltheinstrumentbetweentheMasterkeyboardandtheComputer
inthefollowingmanner:
WhenyouusetheUSBconnection,rememberthat,consideringthatalltheMIDIportsare
alwaysconnected,theMIDIdataoutputfromthepersonalcomputercouldbesentbacktothe
inputsofthesameandproduceannoyingsoundloops.Toavoidtheseproblems,disablethe
MidiThrufunctionofthesequencerusedorsettheMidioutputsofSD4in“OFF”.Forfurther
details,consulttheMidiMenusectionofthismanual.
