This document describes the Kobalt 12-Amp Single Paddle Mud Mixer, Model #59208, an electric power tool designed for mixing liquid and powdery building materials.
Function Description:
The mud mixer is intended for efficiently blending various construction materials such as cement mortar, adhesive, paint, plaster, and similar substances. It features a single mixing paddle that rotates to achieve a consistent mixture. The tool is equipped with a powerful 12-amp motor and offers variable speed control to adapt to different material consistencies and application requirements. For continuous operation, a lock-on button is provided. The ergonomic handle design ensures ease of operation and helps maintain control during use.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Model Number: #59208
- Item Number: #2523370
- Rated Power Input: 120V~60Hz, 12A
- No-load Speed:
- Gear I: 0-520 RPM
- Gear II: 0-800 RPM
- Mixing Paddle (Ø max.): Ø4" x 21.65" (Ø100mm x 550mm)
- Chuck Size: 5/8" (16mm) keyed chuck
- Double Insulation: The tool features double insulation, eliminating the need for a three-wire grounded power cord and protecting the user from electric shock.
Usage Features:
- Variable Speed Control: The mixer speed can be adjusted using a variable speed selector wheel (C) to suit the particular application and material. The tool also has a shift knob for two speed settings (G) (0-520 RPM and 0-800 RPM), allowing users to work at high or low speeds. The shift knob should only be changed when the unit is stopped to prevent damage.
- Switch Trigger and Lock-on Button: The tool is activated by pressing the switch trigger (A). For continuous mixing, the lock-on button (B) can be pressed while the trigger is depressed. Releasing and pressing the trigger again will interrupt continuous operation.
- Mixing Paddle Installation/Removal: The mixing paddle (E) is attached to the shaft (K) and secured in the 5/8" (16mm) keyed chuck (D). A chuck key (J) is provided for tightening and loosening the chuck jaws (O) during paddle installation or removal. The chuck key can be stored in the chuck key storage (I) when not in use.
- Operation: The mixer should be held firmly with both hands using the handle (H). It should be run at a low speed before being immersed in or removed from the mixture. Speed should only be increased to maximum after the paddle is fully immersed to keep the motor cool. The tool must be moved around inside the mixing vessel during the mixing process until all components are processed.
- Power Indicator: A green power indicator (M) illuminates when power is supplied to the tool.
- Overload and Carbon Brush Run-out Warning Light: A red warning light (N) indicates two conditions:
- Solid red: Carbon brushes are running out and need replacement.
- Flashing red: The machine is overloaded. In this case, the tool should be turned off, allowed to rest, and then restarted.
- Safety Precautions: Users are advised to wear safety goggles or glasses with side shields and a full-face shield when needed, as well as a dust mask. Prolonged contact with dust should be avoided. The tool should not be used in wet or damp conditions, or near flammable liquids or gases. It is crucial to ensure the mixing paddle is securely tightened before operation and to never reach into the mixing vessel during mixing.
Maintenance Features:
- General Cleaning: The mixing paddle (E) should be cleaned after each use. The air vents on the motor housing (F) must be kept clean and free of foreign matter; pointed objects should not be used for cleaning. Plastic parts should be cleaned with clean cloths and not solvents, as solvents can damage plastic.
- Chuck Maintenance: The chuck may become loose over time. Instructions are provided for tightening a loose chuck or removing and replacing the chuck using a hex key and mallet. The chuck screw has left-hand threads.
- Cord Inspection: The power cord should be inspected periodically for damage. If damaged, it must be repaired or replaced by an authorized service center or similarly qualified persons. Extension cords should also be checked before each use and replaced if damaged.
- Carbon Brush Replacement: The overload and carbon brush run-out warning light (N) indicates when carbon brushes are nearing the end of their life, prompting replacement.
- Service: Servicing of the tool, especially those with double insulation, should only be performed by a qualified service technician using identical replacement parts to ensure safety and proper function.
