2. Increase the exposure-value number by one-
half (for example, from 8 to between 8 and
9) , if the difference in brightness between
the principal subje ct and background is mod-
erate, and one full exposure-value number if
the difference is considerable.
If the principal subject is dark compared to the
background, follow the same general procedure -
Take a close-up reading of the subject-or d ec rease
the exposure value by one-half or one full number
depending upon the brightness diffe rence between
36 the principal part and background.
