from ignition modules. Note position of ignition
modules.
Remove Debris Screen and Cooling Fan (Style A)
Remove screws, attaching hardware, hex studs securing
debris screen, and stiffeners securing cooling fan to
ywheel.

NOTE: Fan will be loose, but cannot be removed until
after blower housing is removed.
1. Remove screws securing screen and remove
screen.
2. Remove spacers, paying attention to curvature of
spring washers between spacers and fan.
Remove Flywheel
NOTE: Always use a ywheel strap wrench or holding
tool to hold ywheel when loosening or
tightening ywheel screw. Do not use any type
of bar or wedge to hold ywheel. Use of such
tools could cause ywheel to become cracked or
damaged.
NOTE: Always use a ywheel puller to remove ywheel
from crankshaft. Do not strike crankshaft or
ywheel, as these parts could become cracked
or damaged.
1. Use a ywheel strap wrench or holding tool to hold
ywheel and loosen screw securing ywheel to
crankshaft.
2. Remove screw and washer.
3. Use a puller to remove ywheel from crankshaft.

Inspection
Inspect ywheel for cracks and ywheel keyway for
damage. Replace ywheel if it is cracked. Replace
ywheel, crankshaft, and key if ywheel key is sheared
or keyway is damaged.
Inspect ring gear for cracks or damage. Kohler does not
provide ring gear as a serviceable part. Replace ywheel
if ring gear is damaged.
Remove Stator, Rectier-Regulator, and Wiring
Harness
1. Disconnect plug from rectier-regulator. If B+
(center) lead must be removed from plug, use a
small at tool to bend locking tang. Then remove
lead.
2. Remove mounting screws securing rectier-regulator
to backing shroud assembly. Note location of ground
lead. If rectier-regulator is not being replaced, it
may remain mounted to lower blower housing.
3. Remove screws securing stator to crankcase and
carefully separate stator wires from molded clips.
4. Unhook wiring harness from molded clips if it is
being serviced separately.
