Replacing the coolant
Total cooling system capacity: 8.1 L
! Open the engine compartment and side cover (page 112).
! Remove the radiator cap (1) by turning it anticlockwise.
! Open the central coolant drain plug (1) and drain the coolant
completely.
Purge the cooling system if the coolant is very dirty. To do this,
spray water without additives into the cooling system with a hose
through the filler opening until clear water emerges at the outlet.
! Close the central drain.
! Remove the coolant expansion reservoir (1) and drain it, clean-
ing it if necessary. Refit the reservoir.
! Fill the premixed coolant into the radiator and expansion reser-
voir.
! Start the engine (page 71) and let it run at idle speed to warm
up.
! Stop the engine (page 72).
! Check the coolant level (page 65), adding coolant if necessary (page 131).
! Close the engine compartment and side cover.
Drain the coolant only when the engine is cold.
Fill the coolant in a container and dispose of it in ac-
cordance with the prevailing environmental protection
regulations.
Do not operate the cooling system with pure water
(even in summer). The antifreeze also contains a cor-
rosion inhibitor.
