Overview

This document describes the Lenco SCD-420, a portable stereo FM radio with a CD player and cassette deck. It is a Class 1 laser product, meaning it contains a low-power laser device. Users are warned not to touch the lens and not to dispose of batteries in fire. The manual emphasizes that usage of controls or adjustments other than those specified may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

Function Description:

The Lenco SCD-420 is a versatile audio system designed for portable use. It integrates three primary audio sources: an FM radio, a CD player, and a cassette player. The device features a volume control, a function switch to select between CD, Radio, and Tape modes, and a carrying handle for portability. An LCD display shows the current mode, track information, and clock. The unit can be powered by household AC current or by eight UM-2 (size C) batteries, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. A standby button allows for easy power on/off, and a telescopic antenna is provided for optimal FM reception. For private listening, a 3.5mm stereo mini-plug phones jack is available, which automatically disconnects the speakers when headphones are plugged in.

Usage Features:

General Operation:

  • Power On/Off: Press the STANDBY button to turn the unit on or off. The display will show "OFF" and then resume the current time when turned off.
  • Mode Selection: The FUNCTION switch allows selection between CD, RADIO, and TAPE modes.
  • Volume Control: A rotary knob adjusts the audio volume.

Clock Adjustment:

  • The clock is displayed on the LCD in standby mode.
  • To adjust, press and hold the PROG / CLOCK-ADJ./PLAY MODE button.
  • Use the NEXT or BACK buttons to select 12 or 24-hour display, adjust the hour digit, and then the minute digit.
  • Press the PROG / CLOCK-ADJ./PLAY MODE button again to confirm and display the correct time.

Radio Listening:

  • Turn on the unit and set the FUNCTION switch to RADIO.
  • Use the TUNING CONTROL to tune in to a desired station.
  • Adjust the sound using the VOLUME control.
  • The telescopic antenna should be extended for better FM reception.

Compact Disc Playback:

  • Turn on the unit and set the FUNCTION switch to CD.
  • Open the CD door by pushing the designated area.
  • Insert a disc with the label side facing up and close the door. The disc will rotate, and the total number of tracks will be displayed.
  • Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playback. Track number "01" and a play symbol will be shown.
  • Interrupt Playback: Press PLAY/PAUSE again to pause playback (a flashing play symbol will appear). Press it again to resume.
  • Stop Playback: Press the STOP button. The display will show the total tracks of the disc.
  • Skip Tracks: Use the NEXT or BACK skip buttons to move to the next or previous track.
  • Search Passage: During playback, press and hold the NEXT or BACK buttons to search within a track. Release the button to resume normal playback.
  • Automatic Shut-off: The unit will automatically turn off after approximately 30 minutes of inactivity in stop mode or with the CD door open.

CD Playback Modes (Repeat, Repeat All, Mix):

  • Press the PLAY MODE button during CD playback to cycle through modes:
    • Repeat 1: Repeats the current track (display shows "01 REP").
    • Repeat All: Repeats all tracks on the disc.
    • Mix Playback: Plays tracks randomly (display shows "03 MIX").

Programmed Playback (CD):

  • Allows tracks to be played in a desired order (up to 20 tracks).
  • Press the "PROGRAM" button.
  • Use NEXT or BACK to select the desired track number.
  • Press "PROGRAM" again to memorize the track. Repeat for all desired tracks.
  • Press PLAY/PAUSE to start programmed playback. "PROG" and the track number will be shown.
  • Press STOP once to stop programmed playback.
  • To clear programmed memory, open the CD door, turn off the CD player, or press STOP twice. Programming can only be done in stop mode.

Cassette Playback:

  • Set the FUNCTION switch to TAPE.
  • Insert a cassette into the CASSETTE DOOR.
  • Press the PLAY button to start playback.
  • Stop Playback: Press the STOP / EJECT button.
  • Interrupt Playback: Press the PAUSE button. Press again to resume.
  • Fast Wind: Press the REWIND or F.FWD button. Press STOP/EJECT to stop winding at the desired position.
  • Automatic Shut-off: The unit will automatically turn off after approximately 250 minutes of tape playback.

Maintenance Features:

General Precautions:

  • Do not cover or block ventilation openings. Maintain 5 cm (2") free space around the device.
  • Keep away from heat sources, strong magnetic fields, and wet/moist areas.
  • Avoid electrostatic discharge.
  • Do not insert objects into vents or openings. Do not spill liquids on the product.
  • If condensation occurs, let the unit stand in power OFF for 1-2 hours to dry before use.
  • In case of smoke, excessive heat, or unexpected phenomena, disconnect the plug immediately.
  • Use a soft dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid solvents or petrol-based fluids. For severe stains, use a damp cloth with dilute detergent.

CD Maintenance:

  • Cleaning CD Discs: If a CD skips or doesn't play, wipe the disc from the center outwards with a cleaning cloth before playing. Store discs in their cases.
  • Cleaning CD Lens: If the CD lens is dusty, use a brush-blower to blow several times on the lens. Remove dust with the brush. Fingerprints can be removed with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol.
  • CD-R/RW Discs: Playback quality and performance for non-standardized CD-R/RW discs are not guaranteed. Avoid attaching seals or labels to CD-R/RW discs. It is recommended to record only audio files on CD-R/RW discs for easy reading.

Unit Maintenance:

  • Do not use volatile chemicals for cleaning. Wipe lightly with a soft cloth.
  • Troubleshooting Abnormal Display/Operation: If an abnormal display or operating problem occurs, disconnect the AC power cord and remove batteries. Wait at least 5 seconds, then reconnect power or reinstall batteries.
  • CD Door Warning: If the CD door is opened before CD reading is complete, a jamming noise may occur. This is resolved by closing the CD door.

Safety Warnings:

  • This product is a Class 1 laser product. Avoid exposure to the beam when open and interlocks are defeated.
  • Do not throw batteries in fire.
  • Long exposure to loud sounds from personal music players may lead to temporary or permanent hearing loss.
  • Battery warnings: Danger of explosion if incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type. Avoid extreme temperatures, low air pressure, and mechanical crushing/cutting of batteries. Dispose of batteries responsibly.
  • The device is not intended for use by people (including children) with physical, sensory or mental disabilities, or a lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised.
  • This product is for non-professional use only.
  • Ensure the unit is on a stable position to prevent damage from vibrations or shocks.
  • Never remove the casing of this device.
  • Never place this device on other electrical equipment.
  • Do not allow children access to plastic bags.
  • Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
  • Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
  • Do not overload AC outlets or extension cords.
  • Always hold the plug when pulling it out of the main supply socket.
  • If the product contains a coin/cell battery in the remote control, do not ingest it as it can cause severe internal burns. Keep new and used batteries away from children. Seek immediate medical attention if batteries are swallowed.
  • To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.
