Changingorremovingaharddiskpassword
Followsteps1through7in“Settingaharddiskpassword”onpage51,typingyourpasswordtogetaccess
totheThinkPadSetupprogram.
Tochangeorremovetheuserharddiskpassword,dothefollowing:
•Tochangetheharddiskpassword,typethecurrentpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.Then
typethenewpasswordintheEnterNewPasswordeld,andretypethepasswordyoujustenteredto
verifyitintheConrmNewPasswordeld.PressEnter,andaSetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.Press
EntertoexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.Theuserharddiskpasswordwillbechanged.
•Toremovetheharddiskpassword,typethecurrentpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.Then
leavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordeldsblank,andpressEnter.ASetup
Noticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertoexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.Theuserharddisk
passwordwillberemoved.
TochangeorremovetheUser+Masterharddiskpasswords,selectUserHDPorMasterHDP.
IfyouchooseUserHDP,dothefollowing:
•Tochangetheuserharddiskpassword,typethecurrentuserharddiskpasswordorthecurrentmaster
harddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrentPasswordeld.Thentypethenewuserharddiskpasswordin
theEnterNewPasswordeld,andretypethepasswordyoujustenteredtoverifyitintheConrmNew
Passwordeld.PressEnter,andaSetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertoexitfromtheSetup
Noticewindow.Theuserharddiskpasswordischanged.
•Toremovetheuserharddiskpassword,typethecurrentmasterharddiskpasswordintheEnterCurrent
Passwordeld.ThenleavetheEnterNewPasswordandConrmNewPasswordeldsblank,and
pressEnter.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertoexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.Both
theuserandmasterharddiskpasswordswillberemoved.

andpressEnter.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertoexitfromtheSetupNoticewindow.
Boththeuserandmasterharddiskpasswordswillberemoved.
Supervisorpassword
ThesupervisorpasswordprotectsthesysteminformationstoredinThinkPadSetup.Withoutit,noonecan
changethecongurationofthecomputer.Itprovidesthefollowingsecurityfeatures:
•Ifasupervisorpasswordisset,apasswordpromptisdisplayedwhenyoutrytostarttheThinkPadSetup
program.Unauthorizeduserscannotgetaccesstocongurationdata.
•Thesystemadministratorcanusethesupervisorpasswordtogetaccesstoacomputereveniftheuserof
thatcomputerhassetapower-onpassword.Thesupervisorpasswordoverridesthepower-onpassword.
•Ifbothasupervisorpasswordandapower-onpasswordareset,youcandothefollowingonlyifyou
havethesupervisorpassword:
