InstallingorremovingtheThinkServerTrustedPlatformModule
ThistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstallorremovetheThinkServerTrustedPlatformModule(TPM).
TheTPMisasecuritychipdesignedbytheTrustedComputingGroup(TCG)toprovideahardwaremethod
ofdataencryption.Itstorespasswords,encryptionkeys,anddigitalcertificatestohelpprovidesecurity
solutionsandprotectthecomputer.YoucanpurchaseaTPMoptionfromLenovo.

Beforeyoubegin,printalltherelatedinstructionsorensurethatyoucanviewthePDFversiononanother

ToinstalltheTPM,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Iftheserverisinstalledinarackcabinet,removetheserverfromtherackcabinetandplaceitonaflat,
clean,andstatic-protectivesurface.SeetheRackInstallationInstructionsthatcomeswiththeserver.
3.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage83.
4.LocatetheTPMconnectoronthesystemboard.See“Systemboardcomponents”onpage48.If
thereisanyPCIExpresscardinstalledontherisercardassembly1,itmightblockyouraccesstothe
TPMconnectoronthesystemboard.Inthiscase,youneedtoremovethecoolingshroudandthen
carefullylifttherisercardassembly1upsothatyoucanaccesstheTPMconnector.Youdonotneedto
disconnectanycablesfromtherisercardassembly1orcompletelyremovetherisercardassembly1.
5.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainstheTPMtoanyunpaintedsurfaceontheoutsideof
theserver.Then,taketheTPMoutofthepackage.
