CustomerReplaceableUnits(CRUs)arecomputerpartsthatcanbeupgraded
orreplacedbythecustomer.TherearetwotypesofCRUs:Self-serviceand
Optional-service.Self-serviceCRUsareeasytoinstall.Theymightbestandalone,
latched,orrequireascrewdrivertoremoveamaximumoftwoscrews.However,
Optional-serviceCRUsrequiresometechnicalskillsandinsomecasesmight
alsorequiresimpletools,suchasascrewdriver.However,bothSelf-serviceand
Optional-serviceCRUsaresafeforthecustomertoremove.
CustomersareresponsibleforreplacingallSelf-serviceCRUs.Optional-service
CRUscanberemovedandinstalledbycustomersorbyaLenovoservice
technicianduringthewarrantyperiod.Lenovodesktopcomputerscontainboth
Self-serviceandOptional-serviceCRUs.
•Self-serviceCRUs:TheseCRUsunplugoraresecuredbynomorethantwo
screws.ExamplesofthesetypesofCRUsincludethekeyboard,themouse,
anyUSBdevice,andthepowercord.OtherSelf-serviceCRUsdepending
onproductdesignmightincludememorymodules,adaptercards,harddisk
drives,andopticaldrives.
•Optional-serviceCRUs:TheseCRUsareisolatedpartswithinthecomputer
andareconcealedbyanaccesspanelthatistypicallysecuredbymorethan
twoscrews.Oncetheaccesspanelisremoved,thespecicCRUisvisible.
