DOLBY DIGITAL EX & DOLBY DIGITAL

• Available when Dolby Digital EX decoding is engaged. Dolby
Digital EX decoding is engaged when:
– the EX DECODING parameter is set to ON
– the EX DECODING parameter is set to AUTO and a
flagged, encoded 5.1-channel Dolby Digital input source
recorded with Dolby Digital Surround EX is present
Refer to page 29 for more information about the EX
DECODING parameter.
• Designed for playback of 5.1-channel Dolby Digital sources
recorded with Dolby Digital Surround EX.
• Uses matrix decoding to extract or derive a surround back
channel from the surround left and surround right channels.
• Recommended for 5.1-channel Dolby Digital sources recorded
with Dolby Digital Surround EX. This listening mode can be
used for standard Dolby Digital-encoded sources with mixed
results.
DOLBY DIGITAL
• Available when Dolby Digital EX decoding is not engaged.
Dolby Digital EX decoding is not engaged when:
– the EX DECODING parameter is set to OFF
– the EX DECODING parameter is set to AUTO and a
5.1-channel Dolby Digital input source that was not
recorded with Dolby Digital Surround EX is present

– no side or rear speakers are selected
The MC-12 cannot detect non-flagged, encoded 5.1-channel
Dolby Digital input sources recorded with Dolby Digital
Surround EX. Refer to page 29 for more information about the
EX DECODING parameter.
• Designed for playback of 5.1-channel Dolby Digital sources
that were not recorded with Dolby Digital Surround EX.
• Decodes 5.1 discrete channels from 5.1-channel Dolby Digital
sources. The five main channels are full frequency. The .1
channel, often referred to as the LFE channel, has a limited
frequency range up to 120Hz.
• Recommended for 5.1-channel Dolby Digital sources that were
not recorded with Dolby Digital Surround EX.
