Overview

This document is the owner's manual for LG Digital Signage (Monitor Signage) models 98UM5J-B and 110UM5J-B. It provides essential information for the safe and effective operation, installation, and maintenance of the digital signage monitors.

Function Description

The LG Digital Signage monitors are designed for displaying digital content in various environments. They function as large-format displays, capable of rendering high-resolution images and videos. The monitors support multiple HDMI inputs, allowing for connection to various media sources. They are intended for professional use in settings such as retail, corporate, and public spaces, where dynamic visual communication is required. The monitors are designed to operate continuously, making them suitable for demanding digital signage applications.

Usage Features

Basic Operation

The manual outlines the basic components and controls of the monitor. Users can navigate menus and control the device using buttons located on the monitor itself. These buttons allow for opening the main menu, saving input selections, exiting menus, selecting HDMI ports, adjusting settings up/down and left/right, and powering the device on/off.

Installation Orientation

The 98UM5J-B model supports vertical installation. When installing vertically, the monitor should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise while facing the front of the screen. The manual also provides guidelines for tilt angle and ceiling/floor orientation, indicating specific restrictions to ensure proper operation and prevent damage.

Installation Location

The manual provides detailed instructions for both indoor and outdoor enclosed installations. For indoor wall installations, a minimum clearance of 40 mm is required. For recessed wall installations, specific clearances are mandated: 40 mm (A), 50 mm (B), and 100 mm (C). These clearances are crucial to prevent damage, especially from direct sunlight on the front panel, which is not covered by warranty. The manual also illustrates the concept of "Outdoor Enclosed" installation, implying that the monitor should be protected from direct environmental exposure.

Wall Mount Holder

To install the monitor on a wall, an optional wall mount holder is required. The manual provides the Wall Bracket dimensions for both models (98UM5J-B and 110UM5J-B), including the dimensions (A x B1, A x B2 for 98UM5J-B; C x D for 110UM5J-B), standard dimensions for screws (M8), maximum screw length (20 mm for 98UM5J-B, 30 mm for 110UM5J-B), and the quantity of screws needed (6 for 98UM5J-B, 4 for 110UM5J-B). It emphasizes the importance of securely fixing the wall mount holder to both the monitor and the wall to prevent accidents.

Kensington Lock Device

For enhanced security, some models feature a Kensington lock device connector on the back of the monitor. Users can connect a Kensington security system cable between the monitor and a table to deter theft. The manual notes that this is an optional specification and refers users to the locking device's manual for detailed installation and usage instructions.

Connectivity

The monitors are equipped with various input/output ports, including HEADPHONE, USB IN, SPDIF, HDMI IN 1, HDMI IN 2, and HDMI IN 3. This range of connectivity options allows for flexible integration with different audio and video sources.

Wireless Module

The manual details the specifications of the WCT2GM2511 wireless module, which supports Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac) and Bluetooth. It specifies the frequency ranges and output power for both technologies. It also highlights that band channels may vary by country and that users cannot change or adjust the operating frequency, as the product is configured for regional frequency tables. A minimum distance of 20 cm between the device and the body is recommended for user consideration. For Nigeria, it states that connection and use of this communications equipment are permitted by the Nigerian Communications Commission.

Maintenance Features

Precautions for Use

The manual outlines critical precautions to ensure the longevity and proper functioning of the monitor.

Dust

It explicitly states that the warranty will not cover any damage caused by using the product in an excessively dusty environment. This implies that maintaining a clean operating environment is crucial for the device's health.

Afterimage Prevention

Afterimage (also known as image retention or ghosting) is a common concern for displays used in digital signage. The manual provides detailed recommendations to mitigate this issue:

  • Screen Saver Function: Users are advised to use the screen-saver function to prevent pixels from being damaged rapidly if a still image is displayed for a long period.
  • Luminance Differences: It explains that switching from screens with high luminance differences (e.g., black and white to a darker screen) can cause afterimages, which is normal for this product's display characteristics.
  • Voltage Difference and Liquid Crystal Alignment: The manual describes how prolonged display of a still pattern can lead to a slight voltage difference between the electrodes operating the liquid crystal (LC), causing the LC to remain aligned in one direction and resulting in an afterimage.
  • Operational Recommendations: To reduce afterimage occurrence, especially with fixed screens, the manual recommends continuously changing images. For fixed screens, the maximum recommended time for switching the screen is 12 hours, with shorter cycles being better for prevention.
  • Background and Text Color Changes: Users are advised to change the background and text colors at equal intervals. Afterimages occur less when the colors to be changed are complementary to one another.
  • Screen Interval Switching: It recommends switching the screen at equal time intervals and ensuring that text or images from before the screen change are not left in the same location after the screen change.

General Safety

The manual includes a caution regarding power disconnection before moving or installing the monitor to prevent electric shock. It also warns against installing the monitor on a ceiling or inclined wall, as it may fall and cause injury. Over-tightening screws can damage the monitor and void the warranty. Users are instructed to use screws and wall mount plates conforming to Wall Mount standards, as inappropriate components are not covered by the warranty. Using screws longer than the indicated depth can damage the product's interior, so proper length is essential. For more installation information, users should refer to the wall mount's user manual.

Noise

A note indicates that temporary noise is normal when powering the device ON or OFF.

By adhering to these guidelines, users can ensure the optimal performance, longevity, and safety of their LG Digital Signage monitors.
