Overview

This document is an owner's manual for an LG window air conditioner, providing instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The LG window air conditioner is designed to cool and dehumidify a room. It operates by circulating air, removing heat and humidity, and expelling it to the outside. The unit features various operational modes, including Energy Saver, Cool, Fan, and Dry, to cater to different cooling and dehumidification needs. The Energy Saver mode is designed to conserve energy by cycling the compressor and fan off when the set temperature is reached, with the fan periodically turning on to sense if more cooling is required. The Cool mode is for rapid cooling and dehumidification, allowing users to adjust both temperature and fan speed. The Fan mode circulates air without running the compressor, offering adjustable fan speeds but no temperature control. The Dry mode is specifically for dehumidifying, particularly useful in rainy or damp conditions, where the compressor and fan operate at a fixed low speed until the set temperature is met.

The air conditioner is equipped with a thermostat that monitors room temperature, allowing users to set a desired temperature range between 60 °F and 86 °F (16 °C and 30 °C). It also includes a timer function for delayed ON or OFF operation, which can be set for up to 24 hours. A unique feature is the slinger fan, which enhances efficiency by picking up condensed water from the base pan and expelling it through the condenser. This design helps in making the air conditioner more efficient by utilizing the condensed water. The unit also has an auto-restart function, which restores previous settings after a power outage, ensuring continuous comfort.

Usage Features

The air conditioner can be controlled via a control panel on the unit itself or a wireless remote control. The control panel provides access to power, fan speed, timer, and mode settings. The remote control offers similar functionalities, allowing users to adjust temperature, fan speed, and operation mode from a distance. The remote control requires two AAA 1.5V batteries, and it's recommended to remove them if the unit won't be used for an extended period. For optimal remote control operation, it should be kept away from direct sunlight and obstacles.

Air direction can be adjusted using horizontal air deflectors (vertical louvers) with control tabs, allowing the airflow to be directed left, right, straight ahead, or any combination thereof, to optimize cooling distribution within the room. The unit is designed for installation in standard double-hung windows with specific opening width and vertical opening requirements. Proper installation involves ensuring the unit is securely placed, slightly tilted outwards for drainage, and free from obstructions around its side and top louvers to ensure efficient heat radiation. The manual provides detailed steps for preparing the chassis and installing the unit, including securing it with screws and using foam strips for sealing.

The power cord includes a current interrupter device with TEST and RESET buttons, which should be tested periodically for safety. Users are cautioned against using extension cords, surge protectors, or multi-outlet adapters with the unit, and are advised not to modify or immerse the plug. In case of a tripped interrupter device, the cause should be corrected before further use.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the air conditioner's efficiency and longevity. The primary maintenance task is cleaning the air filter, which should be checked at least twice a month. The unit features a "Clean Filter" LED light that illuminates after 250 hours of operation as a reminder to clean the filter. To clean the filter, it must be removed from the front grille, washed with lukewarm water below 40 °C (104 °F), gently shaken to remove excess water, and then replaced. After cleaning, the "Clean Filter" light can be turned off by pressing the "Temp" up and down buttons simultaneously on the control panel.

Beyond the air filter, the air conditioner's exterior can be cleaned by removing dust from the air inlet and outlet with a vacuum cleaner. The front grille and inlet grille can be wiped with a cloth dampened in a mild detergent solution, and the cabinet can be washed with mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water, then polished with liquid appliance wax.

For continued peak efficiency, the condenser coils (located on the outside of the unit) should be periodically checked and cleaned if clogged with soot or dirt from outside air. However, any repair or maintenance beyond basic cleaning should be performed by an Authorized Service Center. The manual emphasizes the importance of disconnecting the power supply and waiting for the fan to stop before performing any cleaning or maintenance to prevent injury. It also warns against touching metal parts when removing the air filter and using strong cleaning agents or solvents, which could cause damage.
