Overview

This document is a user's guide for the LG W1643C display, providing essential information on its installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The LG W1643C is a flat panel active matrix-TFT LCD display designed for use with computers. Its primary function is to display visual output from a connected computer system. The display features an On Screen Display (OSD) control system, allowing users to adjust various image parameters and operating settings for optimal viewing. It supports both PC and Mac connections via a D-sub cable. The display is equipped with a power button and an indicator light that shows its operational status (On Mode, Sleep Mode, Off Mode).

Usage Features

The display offers several features to enhance the user experience:

Connecting to the Computer

To connect the display, users must first ensure that the power to the monitor, computer system, and other attached devices is turned off. The display connects to a computer via a D-sub cable. For Mac users, a separate plug adapter may be required to convert the 15-pin high-density D-sub VGA connector to a 15-pin 2-row connector. Shielded signal interface cables with ferrite cores are recommended to maintain standard compliance.

Stand Assembly and Positioning

The display comes with a stand that requires assembly. Users need to place the monitor face down on a soft cloth, assemble the stand base into the stand body, and secure it by tying down the base lock. Once assembled, the monitor can be carefully positioned. The display allows for tilt adjustment within a range of -5° to 15° for maximum comfort. It is recommended that the forward tilt angle does not exceed 5 degrees for ergonomic viewing. The stand can also be disassembled by following a reverse procedure, which involves changing a lock on the product and pulling out the stand.

Cable Management

The display includes a cable holder feature (though not available on all models) to help organize cables, contributing to a tidier workspace.

Control Panel Functions

The front panel of the display features several controls:

  • Fün Button: This button allows users to access "4:3 IN WIDE" and "PHOTO EFFECT" settings, which adjust the image size and apply various visual effects.
  • MENU Button: Used to enter or exit the On Screen Display (OSD). It also serves as a lock/unlock mechanism for OSD settings. Pressing and holding the MENU button for several seconds will lock the OSD, displaying "OSD LOCKED." To unlock, press and hold it again, and "OSD UNLOCKED" will appear.
  • Buttons: These buttons are used to select or adjust functions within the OSD.
  • F-ENGINE Button: This button provides access to the "f-ENGINE" menu, which offers various image condition optimizations such as "MOVIE," "INTERNET," "USER," "NORMAL," and "DEMO" modes. These modes are tailored for different content types (e.g., videos, text, user-defined settings).
  • AUTO/SET Button: This button selects icons in the OSD and performs an "AUTO IMAGE ADJUSTMENT." When pressed, it automatically adjusts the display image to ideal settings for the current screen resolution, helping to resolve issues like blurry screens, blurred letters, screen flicker, or tilted screens.
  • Power Button: Turns the display on or off.
  • Power Indicator: A light that shows the display's status: red for normal operation (On Mode) and flickering for Sleep Mode (Energy Saving).

  • PHOTO EFFECT: Applies visual effects such as "NORMAL" (disabled effect), "GAUSSIAN BLUR" (brightens dark images and blurs sharp ones), "SEPIA" (changes screen to brown tone), and "MONOCHROME" (changes screen to gray tone).
  • PICTURE: Controls "BRIGHTNESS," "CONTRAST," and "GAMMA" to fine-tune image quality. Gamma values can be adjusted from -50 to 50, affecting the display of whitish or high-contrast images.
  • COLOR: Allows customization of screen color through "PRESET" options (sRGB, 6500K, 9300K) and individual "RED," "GREEN," and "BLUE" color levels.
  • TRACKING: Adjusts "HORIZONTAL" and "VERTICAL" position, "CLOCK" (minimizes vertical bars/stripes and adjusts horizontal screen size), "PHASE" (adjusts focus, removes horizontal noise, and sharpens characters), and "SHARPNESS" (adjusts screen clearness).
  • SETUP: Configures "LANGUAGE," "OSD POSITION" (horizontal/vertical), "WHITE BALANCE" (adjusts color levels to fit video card output), "POWER INDICATOR" (turns the indicator light on/off), and "FACTORY RESET" (restores default settings, excluding language).
  • FLATRON F-ENGINE: Provides optimized image settings for different environments and content types, including "MOVIE," "INTERNET," "USER" (manual adjustment of ACE and RCM), "NORMAL" (f-ENGINE off), and "DEMO" (advertising mode). Troubleshooting

The manual provides troubleshooting steps for common issues:

  • No image appears: Check power cord connection, power indicator light, and PC status.
  • "OUT OF RANGE" message: Indicates the PC's signal is outside the display's frequency range; adjust display settings.
  • "CHECK SIGNAL CABLE" message: Signal cable between PC and display is not connected; check connection.
  • "OSD LOCKED" message: Unlock OSD settings by pressing and holding the MENU button.
  • Display image is incorrect: Use AUTO/SET for automatic adjustment. If unsatisfactory, manually adjust H/V position, CLOCK (for vertical bars/stripes), or PHASE (for horizontal noise/blur). Check Control Panel settings for resolution and color depth.

  • Screen blinks: Check if the screen is set to interlace mode and change to recommended resolution if necessary.
  • Display driver issues: Install the display driver from the provided CD or download from the LG website. Ensure the video card supports Plug&Play if an "Unrecognized monitor" message appears.
