Overview

This document is a service manual for the LG Washing Machine, model WD1485ATB(1~9). It provides comprehensive information for diagnosing problems, performing service, and understanding the appliance's features and specifications.

Function Description

The LG WD1485ATB(1~9) is a washing machine designed with advanced features to optimize laundry care. It incorporates an Inverter Direct Drive system, where a brushless DC motor directly drives the drum without a belt or pulley, enhancing durability and reducing noise. The machine boasts 6 Motion technology, allowing for various drum actions or combinations depending on the selected wash program. This, combined with controlled spin speeds and the ability to rotate the drum both left and right, aims to deliver superior wash performance.

A Built-in Heater automatically heats the water to the optimal temperature for selected cycles, ensuring effective cleaning. The Intelligent Wash System detects the load amount and water temperature to determine the most efficient water level and washing time, minimizing energy and water consumption. For safety and convenience, it includes a Child Lock feature that prevents children from altering settings during operation. A Low noise speed control system senses load and balance to evenly distribute the load, reducing spinning noise.

The washing machine features Fuzzy Logic to determine the best washing time by sensing water temperature, selected washing temperature, and laundry amount, optimizing performance. Water Level Control is managed by a pressure sensor, which stops water supply once the preset level is reached and prevents spinning until the water in the tub reduces to a certain level. The Door Lock mechanism ensures the door cannot be opened while the program is operating or when the "Door Lock" light is on.

The appliance offers a variety of wash programs, including Cotton, Cotton Eco, Mix, Easy Care, Duvet, Baby Care, Skin Care, Sports Wear, Wool, Quick 30, Silent Wash, Rinse+Spin, Dry only, and Wash+Dry. Additional programs include Time Delay (3-19 hours), Medic Rinse for enhanced rinsing, Favorite to store customized cycles, and Pre Wash for heavily soiled loads. The Tub Clean course is a special cycle designed to clean the inside of the washer.

Usage Features

The washing machine's operation is user-friendly, featuring a Cycle Selector knob to choose from various wash programs tailored for different fabric types and soil levels. The POWER button turns the appliance On/Off, while the Start/Pause button initiates or stops the wash cycle.

The Dry Selector knob allows selection of dry programs such as Lower Temp., Iron Dry, Cupboard Dry, Eco Dry, and Time-based drying (30, 60, 120 minutes). The Spin, Temp. Button is used to change the spin speed and select water temperature based on the load type.

The EST. Time remaining display shows the estimated time left in the cycle and also displays error indications (e.g., 1E, dE, uE, EE, FE, PE, LE, dHE, PF, PS) in case of abnormal operation. Error indications blink, and for most errors, the power turns off automatically after 4 minutes if not resolved, except for PE and EE (20 seconds) and FE (power does not turn off).

The Child Lock function is activated by pressing and holding the Option left and right buttons for 3 seconds, disabling all buttons except the Power button.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides detailed troubleshooting steps for various issues, categorized by error codes and other common problems.

Error Display Troubleshooting:

  • IE (Water Inlet Error): Indicates water not reaching the preset level within a specified time. Troubleshooting involves checking the water tap, air chamber, tube, connectors, harness, inlet valve resistance, and potentially replacing the pressure switch or main PCB.
  • uE (Unbalanced Error): Occurs when the load is unbalanced or too few items are present. Solutions include adding laundry, rearranging the load, or ensuring the machine is installed horizontally.
  • oE (Water Outlet Error): Signifies incomplete draining. Troubleshooting involves checking for kinked drain hoses and cleaning the pump filter.
  • dHE (Dry Heater Error): Points to issues with the dry heater, its connectors, or the dry fan motor. Steps include checking thermistor resistance, dry heater resistance, and dry fan motor resistance, and inspecting for foreign objects in the condensing bellows or duct.
  • PE (Pressure Sensor S/W Error): Indicates a problem with the pressure sensor switch. Troubleshooting involves checking connectors, harness, pressure switch resistance, and for clogged air chamber or tube.
  • dE (Door Open Error): Occurs if the door is not closed properly or the door switch is faulty. Solutions include closing the door, checking door assembly alignment, latch hook spring, connectors, and potentially replacing the door bracket, latch hook, or door switch.
  • tE (Thermistor (Heating) Error): Relates to the heating thermistor. Steps include checking connectors, harness, thermistor resistance, and heater resistance, potentially replacing the thermistor, heater, or main PCB.
  • LE (Motor Lock Error): Suggests a motor issue, often due to an overloaded drum or a faulty hall sensor. Troubleshooting involves checking connectors, harness, rotor magnet, hall sensor resistance, and stator resistance, potentially replacing the rotor, hall sensor, or stator.
  • AE (Water Leaks): Indicates water leakage.
  • PF (Power Failure): Signifies a power interruption.
  • PS (Power Supply): Indicates incorrect or unmatched supplied voltage.

Troubleshooting Without Error Codes:

  • No Power: Checks include power plug connection, supply voltage, multi-plug usage, connectors to main PCB and noise filter, and LED status.
  • Vibration & Noise In Spin: Primarily involves ensuring transit bolts and base packing are removed and referring to installation guidelines for proper leveling.
  • Detergent & Softener does not flow in: Checks for water supply, correct compartment usage, and caked/hardened detergent.
  • Water Leak: Differentiated into leaks from the dispenser (checking dispenser tray damage, correct detergent placement, caked detergent) and unknown water on the floor (checking inlet hoses, washer horizontality, drain filter, and manual drain hose).

Disassembly Instructions: The manual provides detailed instructions for disassembling various components for service and repair, including:

  • Control Panel
  • PWB Assembly (Main and Power)
  • Dispenser Assembly
  • Inlet Valve
  • Door
  • Cabinet Cover
  • Switch Assy, Door Lock
  • Rotor Assembly, Stator Assembly, Friction Damper
