This document is a service manual for an LG washing machine, model WV6-1409W. It provides comprehensive information for diagnosing problems, servicing, and maintaining the appliance.
Function Description
The LG washing machine features an Inverter Direct Drive system, where a brushless DC motor directly drives the drum without a belt or pulley, enhancing efficiency and durability. It incorporates 6 Motion technology, allowing for various drum actions or combinations depending on the wash program, which, combined with controlled spin speed and bi-directional drum rotation, significantly improves wash performance.
The machine is equipped with Smart ThinQ (Wi-Fi feature), enabling remote control, smart alerts, mode downloads, and smart self-diagnosis via a smartphone app. An Intelligent Wash system detects load size and water temperature to determine optimal water level and washing time, minimizing energy and water consumption.
For safety and convenience, it includes a Child Lock to prevent children from changing settings during operation. A Low noise speed control system senses load amount and balance to evenly distribute the load, minimizing spinning noise. The Auto Restart function allows the program to resume from where it stopped in case of a power failure. SmartDiagnosis™ enables the machine to transmit data by phone to a customer information center for quick and effective troubleshooting.
The washing machine's operation is governed by Fuzzy Logic, which determines the optimal washing time based on water temperature, selected washing temperature, and laundry amount. Water Level Control is managed by a pressure sensor that senses the water level in the tub, stopping water supply at a preset level and preventing spinning until the water reduces to a certain level. The door cannot be opened while a program is operating or when the "Door Lock" light is on.

Usage Features
The control panel includes a Power Button to turn the machine on/off, a Program Dial to select wash cycles based on laundry type, and a Start/Pause Button to begin or temporarily stop a wash cycle. The LED display shows settings, estimated time remaining, options, and status messages.
Options include:
- Intensive: For normal and heavily soiled laundry.
- Rinse+: Adds an extra rinse cycle.
- Delay End: Sets a time delay for the washing machine to start and finish automatically.
- Temp.: Selects water temperature (Cold, 20℃, 30℃, 40℃, 60℃, 95℃).
- Pre Wash: Effective for heavily soiled laundry.
- Spin: Selects spin speed level (No Spin / 400 / 800 / 1000 / 1200 / 1400 rpm).
- Child Lock: Locks the control panel to prevent accidental changes. Activated by holding "Delay End" and "Add Item" buttons for 3 seconds.
- Beep On/Off: Toggles the sound for button presses and notifications. Activated by holding "Turbowash" and "Pre Wash" buttons for 3 seconds.
The Tub Clean cycle is a special program for cleaning the inside of the washing machine, using a higher water level and spin speed. It is recommended to perform this cycle regularly without any clothing or detergent, adding anti-limescale if necessary.
The Door Lock & Detecting feature ensures safety by locking the door during operation. The "Door Lock" icon illuminates when the door is locked. The machine also detects laundry load during the "Detecting" phase.
Maintenance Features
Care After Wash:
- Wipe the door and the inside of the door seal to remove moisture.
- Leave the door open to dry the drum interior.
- Wipe the machine body with a dry cloth.
Cleaning the Interior:
- Wipe around the door opening and glass with a towel or soft cloth.
- Remove items promptly after cycles to prevent wrinkling, color transfer, and odor.
- Run the Tub Clean program monthly (or more often) to remove detergent buildup and residue.
Cleaning the Water Inlet Filter:
- Turn off water supply taps if the machine will be left unused for a long time.
- Clean the water inlet filter occasionally, especially in areas with hard water or lime deposits, as clogging can occur.
- To clean, turn off the water tap, unscrew the water supply hose, and clean the filter with a hard bristle brush.
Cleaning the Drain Pump Filter and Emergency Water Evacuation:
- The drain filter collects threads and small objects. Clean it every six months.
- Allow water to cool before cleaning.
- Unplug the appliance.
- Open the cover cap and pull out the drain tube.
- Remove the drain plug to drain water, then slowly unscrew the drain pump filter to remove remaining water and debris.
- After cleaning, reinsert the filter and screw the drain cap back in clockwise, ensuring no leakage. Place the plug back into the drain tube.
Cleaning the ezDispense Drawer:
- Clean the ezDispense compartments every time detergent/softener is refilled or changed.
- Remove and clean the drawer once or twice a month to prevent residue buildup.
- To clean, pull out the drawer, press the disengage button, open the lids, clean inserts and compartments with warm water (no soap), and remove any hardened detergent/softener. Wipe off moisture and reinsert the drawer.
General Safety Warnings:
- Always unplug the washing machine before cleaning or servicing to avoid electric shock.
- Do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents.
- Adhere to all industry-recommended safety procedures, including wearing long-sleeved gloves and safety glasses.
- Do not spray water inside the washing machine.
