The Lippert Tire Linc® Tyre Pressure & Temperature Monitoring System 2.0 (TPMS) is a device designed to monitor the pressure and temperature of a caravan's tyres, providing alerts via the OneControl BT® app if these parameters fall outside a programmable range. This system aims to enhance safety by notifying users of potential tyre issues, such as high or low air pressure, which can lead to detrimental effects on tyres and the unit, including undesirable tread wear.
Function Description:
The Tire Linc system operates by using stem-mount sensors that transmit real-time tyre pressure and temperature data to a repeater. The repeater then communicates this data via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to the OneControl BT app on a user's iOS or Android smartphone. The app displays the current tyre pressures and temperatures and provides visual alerts for any faults detected. The system is designed to provide notifications for tyre events, such as pressure or temperature falling outside the set limits.
Key System Components:
- Sensors: These are stem-mount devices that measure tyre pressure and temperature. They have a maximum pressure reading of 129.6 kPa (188 psi) and a temperature measurement range of -50 to 205 °C (-58 to 401 °F). The Stem Sensor Working Range is 85 to -20 °C (185 to -4 °F).
- Repeater: This component receives data from the sensors and transmits it to the smartphone app via BLE.
- Repeater Dock: This base provides power to the repeater when it is "docked."
- OneControl BT App: The smartphone application that displays real-time tyre pressures, temperatures, and visual alerts for faults.
- Stem Sensor Tool: A two-piece tool used to separate the stem sensor for battery replacement.
- Lock Nut Wrench: A tool used to install optional lock nuts for theft deterrence.
- O-ring: Replacement O-rings for stem sensors, used during battery changes.
- Lock Nut: An optional component used as a theft deterrent.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Sensor Pressure Range: Maximum 129.6 kPa (188 psi).
- Sensor Temperature Range: -50 to 205 °C (-58 to 401 °F).
- Stem Sensor Working Range: 85 to -20 °C (185 to -4 °F).
- Stem Sensor Pressure Reading Tolerance: +/-1.5 psi (+/-10.3 kPa).
- Stem Sensor Temperature Reading Tolerance: +/-3 °C (+/-5.4 °F).
- Battery Type (for Stem Sensor): CR1632 3V lithium coin battery (not included).
- Data Transmission Frequency:
- Moving/rotating tyres: Every one minute.
- Not moving/not rotating tyres: Every 15 minutes.
Usage Features:
- Installation and Pairing:
- The repeater is snapped into its dock, which provides power.
- The OneControl BT app is downloaded and launched on a smartphone.
- The app guides the user through pairing with the repeater, requiring location permissions and selection of the correct Tire Linc device based on RSSI value.
- Users select their vehicle class and layout within the app.
- Stem sensors are paired to the repeater in a specific sequence (Left Front, Right Front for single axle; Left Front, Left Rear, Right Front, Right Rear for double axle). The app provides instructions for screwing each sensor onto the tyre stem.
- Optional lock nuts can be installed as a theft deterrent, tightened against the sensor using the provided wrench.
- Monitoring and Alerts:
- The app displays real-time tyre pressure and temperature.
- Tyre event notifications are sent to the smartphone.
- Users can tap on a tyre's readout button to view its properties, including last data received, current pressure, temperature, and battery level.
- Configurable Limits:
- The system allows users to set minimum and maximum pressure limits, maximum temperature limits, and maximum temperature change limits for individual tyres or all tyres simultaneously.
- Initial low and high pressure limits are estimated at +/- 20% of the last received sensor data after learning is completed.
- Units of Measure:
- Users can change the units of measure (Imperial/Metric) for temperature (°F/°C) and pressure (psi/kPa) within the app's settings.
Maintenance Features:
- Battery Replacement (Stem Sensor):
- The stem sensor battery can be replaced using the included Stem Sensor tool.
- The tool helps unscrew the top cap of the sensor to expose the CR1632 3V lithium coin battery.
- It is recommended to replace the O-ring when changing the battery.
- If using lock nuts, they should be held with the wrench while unscrewing the sensor.
- Troubleshooting:
- Missing Stem Sensor: If a sensor is loose or missing, its readout button in the app will be grayed out. Users should tighten or replace the sensor.
- Factory Reset: If an incorrect caravan type is chosen or for a new caravan configuration, the system can be reset by pressing and holding the pair button on the repeater for approximately 10 seconds until a specific red blink sequence occurs. This resets the Tire Linc into configuration mode, requiring re-installation of stem sensors.
- No Power: If the system is not working, users should check the in-line fuse to the repeater dock.
- Learn Sensors Procedure Resets System: Users are cautioned NOT to press the "Learn Sensors" button in the app unless they intend to reset the Tire Linc into configuration mode, which requires uninstalling the stem sensors.
