Overview

MC Series Light Curtain: Instruction and Manual

This document provides a comprehensive guide for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the MC Series Light Curtain, a crucial safety device designed to protect personnel in hazardous work environments. It emphasizes the importance of correct and optimal use for personal safety and instructs agents, dealers, and machine manufacturers to provide this manual to end-users for proper guidance.

Function Description

The MC Series Light Curtain primarily serves as a safety mechanism for mechanical processing equipment, hazardous work areas, and other machinery. Its main function is to prevent injury to operators and to mitigate accidents by detecting intrusions into dangerous regions, thereby ensuring personal safety. The light curtain can be used either as a standalone safety device or integrated with other safety modules, such as safety relays and emergency stop switches, to form more complex control systems. These integrated systems can trigger alarms upon intrusion into dangerous areas or interlock with equipment protection systems.

Usage Features

The MC Series Light Curtain is designed with several features to enhance its usability and reliability in various industrial settings. Its slim and exquisite profile allows for easy installation, making it adaptable to different machine configurations. The device offers a maximum protection height of 1740mm and a protection range spanning from 400mm to 3500mm, accommodating a wide array of application requirements.

A key feature is its perfect self-checking and redundancy design within the circuit, which is critical for preventing the transmission of erroneous signals to the control system. This ensures a high level of safety integrity. Users can select from various models offering different light pitches and detecting heights, allowing for customization based on specific application needs.

The light curtain demonstrates excellent anti-interference capabilities, effectively resisting electromagnetic signals, flashlights, weld arc light, and other peripheral light sources that might otherwise compromise its performance. This robust design contributes to its long-lasting and high reliability in demanding industrial environments.

Furthermore, the MC Series Light Curtain is characterized by strong light passing capabilities, which simplifies the alignment process during installation. It also incorporates perfect self-defense functions, including electrode protection and output short protection, safeguarding the device itself from potential damage. The fast response time of the light curtain is crucial for minimizing danger by quickly detecting intrusions. For output flexibility, it offers safety and reliable NPN or PNP double output options.

The manual also details the influence of peripheral reflecting surfaces on the light curtain's operation. Smooth reflecting surfaces, such as metal plates, floors, ceilings, workpieces, covers, partition boards, or glass plates, can cause the protector to lose its normal and protective function. Therefore, the protector's placement position must be sufficiently far from any reflecting surface, or such surfaces must be covered to eliminate disturbance and guarantee security. A formula and a coordinate chart are provided to help determine the safe distance (value A) from reflecting objects.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the continued safety and optimal performance of the MC Series Light Curtain. The manual outlines several important notices and a comprehensive check and maintenance schedule.

Before putting the device into operation, it is crucial to check that the protector is running normally. During operation, the position of the light curtain should not be altered. In the event of a malfunction, only professional technicians are authorized to perform repairs. Before replacing or installing the protector or transmitting wires and cables, the power to the protector must be switched off, and this operation should also be carried out by professional technicians. To prevent damage, workpieces, tools, or waste materials should not be allowed to hit the protector during operation.

A periodical check and maintenance schedule is provided to ensure operator safety. This includes:

  • Before operating:

    • Check for light curtain face: Confirm that all passing and reflecting faces are clean and undamaged.
    • Confirmation of incepting light (test every beam): Block each beam of the light curtain one by one and check if the indication states are normal.
    • Check for protection function: In the entire protected slide travel (or onward strokes between 30 to 180 degrees, with the cam switch set for "no protection" in the back-way), block the light curtain. The slide of the press should stop immediately.
  • Every six months:

    • Check for screws: Confirm that all screws are tightly fixed.
    • Check for wiring terminates: Confirm that all screws are tightly fixed and all wiring is well connected.
    • Check for relay: Confirm that relays are tightly installed, contacts are well maintained, and operation is normal.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues. For instance, if the protector does not work and various indicators are not lit up, the reason might be a lack of power supply, and the solution involves inspecting the power source and wiring. If the protector works intermittently or indicators flicker, it could be due to poor wiring of the control cable, requiring tightening of terminal screws. If indicators display normally but the press cannot run, the light curtain might not be aimed correctly, or the protector output control wires (OSSD1 and OSSD2) might be broken with the press control unit, or the press control unit/controller might have a fault. If indicators display normally but the press does not stop when the light curtain is blocked, it could indicate a short circuit in OSSD1 or OSSD2. For these issues, solutions range from adjusting the light curtain to re-wiring, examining the press control unit, or consulting specific controller troubleshooting forms.
