Troubleshooting guide for LORENTZ ECDRIVE submersible
All specifications and information are given with good intent, errors are possible and products may be subject to change without notice.
Pictures may differ from actual products depending on local market requirements and regulations.
3.4 Worn out/jammed ECDRIVE shaft on the radial bearings
The reason for a jammed motor shaft is very likely a worn out upper bearing. The upper radial
bearing fails because lubrication is missing or sand particles enter from the top of the motor.
Sometimes, it is impossible to remove the shaft from the motor. In this case, replacing the bearings
makes no sense because the damage at the bearing surfaces on the shaft is too large.
If the motor shaft can be separated from the motor, examine the bearing surfaces. The following
examples of the running surface of the upper bearing (motor shaft) help to determine whether a
repair makes sense or not:
many particles in the
water
no particles, but
discolored water
(polishing of the bearing
Compare your bearing surface with the pictures above to evaluate whether a repair makes sense.
3.5 Melted POM tube
The white tube (picture on the left) separates the
casted windings from the shaft. There are two
different material types available, a black version
(carbon) and a white colored version (POM).
The black carbon tube will not get damaged if the
motor has no proper cooling. However, the white POM
tube could melt if the motor overheats. In this case,
the motor must be replaced.
The left picture shows an intact POM tube. Different
colors of the tube are normal and are no direct
indicator for burnt windings.
