1 Overview
What is the cause for a damaged ECDRIVE?
Reading this document during your inspection in the workshop will show you indicators for possible
causes and tests which can be performed.
Most important question after the investigation is whether a repair makes sense or not. Example
pictures show how to categorize the damage in order to decide whether a repair is reasonable or
not. In the end of this document you will find a section which describes possible root causes. Often a
faulty motor is the cause due to an installation related issue. Till this issue is not solved the pump
system could fail and fail again. Therefore, do not “just” repair the failure, find the root cause and fix
it.
Generally, the investigation is split in two sections. It begins with the outer observation because the
outer observation can already conclude that a repair is useless or impossible. Additionally, the outer
observation should be done directly on site. Outer observation means to investigate the motor
without the disassembling the motor. There are four main steps for the outer observation:
Visual inspection
Electrical inspection
Mechanical inspection
Running test (without load)
The outer observation is followed by the inner observation. Please note that opening the ECDRIVE
voids warranty and may only be done on specific demands by LORENTZ. Open the ECDRIVE in a
workshop only and secure a clean work environment.
