Electrical Requirements
Product rating is 120 volts AC, 60Hertz, 14.6 amps, and 1.60 kilowatts.
This product must be connected to a supply circuit of the proper voltage
and frequency. Wire size must conform to the requirements of the National
Electric Code or the prevailing local code for this kilowatt rating. The
power supply cord and plug should be brought to a separate 20ampere

care is exercised in their use.
c) If a long cord or extension cord is used:
1) The marked electrical rating of the cord set or extension cord should
be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance.
2) The extension cord must be a grounding type 3-wire cord, and
3) The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the
counter top or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or
tripped over unintentionally.
This over-the-range oven was designed for use over ranges no wider
than 30inches. It may be installed over both gas and electric cooking
equipment.
Grounding Instructions
This appliance must be grounded. In the event of an electrical short circuit,
grounding reduces the risk of the electric shock by providing an escape
wire for the electric current. This appliance is equipped with a cord having
a grounding wire with a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an
outlet that is properly installed and grounded.
WARNING - Improper use of the grounding can result in a risk of electric
shock.
Consult a qualified electrician or serviceman if the grounding instructions
are not completely understood, or if doubt exists as to whether the
appliance is properly grounded, and either:
1) If it is necessary to use an extension cord, use only a 3-wire extension
cord that has a 3-blade grounding plug, and a 3-slot receptacle that will
accept the plutg on the
appliance. The marked rating of
the extension cord shall be equal
to or greater than the electrical
rating of the appliance, or Do not
use an extension cord.
2) If the power supply cord is too
short, have a qualified
electrician or serviceman
install an outlet near the
appliance.

Overview

This document describes the installation and features of an Over-the-Range Microwave Oven.

Function Description:

The microwave oven is designed for cooking and heating food, and also functions as a ventilation system for ranges up to 30 inches wide. It can be installed over both gas and electric cooking equipment. The ventilation system offers three types of exhaust: horizontal, vertical, and recirculation. For horizontal and vertical ventilation, it vents to the outside, while recirculation ventilation filters the air and returns it to the kitchen.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Rating: 120 volts AC, 60 Hertz, 14.6 amps, and 1.60 kilowatts.
  • Power Supply: Requires connection to a separate 20-ampere branch circuit with a single grounded receptacle.
  • Mounting Requirements:
    • Minimum 30 inches between wall-hung side cabinets.
    • Bottom edge of the top cabinet must be at least 66 inches from the floor and 30 inches from the cooking surface.
    • Designed for installation in a 30-inch wide cabinet opening.
    • The mounting surface (wall) must be capable of supporting the cabinet load plus a minimum of 135 pounds (85 pounds for the microwave oven itself, plus an additional 50 pounds for oven loads), totaling 135 pounds.
    • Wall construction should be a minimum of 2" x 4" wall studding and 3/8" or more thick drywall or plaster/lath. The oven must be attached to a minimum of one 2" x 4" wall stud.
  • Exhaust Duct (for outside ventilation):
    • Standard 3-1/4" x 10" rectangular duct.
    • If round duct is used, a rectangular-to-round transition adapter is required, and the duct must be at least 6 inches in diameter.
    • Maximum total equivalent duct length should not exceed 140 feet. Equivalent lengths for common duct components are provided: Roof Cap (24 ft), 90° Elbow (10 ft or 25 ft), 45° Elbow (5 ft), Adaptor (5 ft), Wall Cap (40 ft).

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The installation process requires two people due to the weight of the unit. It involves preparing the top cabinet and wall, installing a mounting plate, and then hanging the microwave oven.
  • Ventilation System Adaptation: The blower motor can be reconfigured for horizontal, vertical, or recirculation exhaust.
    • Horizontal Ventilation: The blower unit is rolled so fan blade openings face the rear of the unit. A damper is fitted into the house duct, ensuring the hinge is on top and swings freely. Foam tape is applied to the damper.
    • Vertical Ventilation: The blower unit is rolled so fan blade openings face upward. A damper is attached to the microwave through the cabinet bottom, allowing for adjustment.
    • Recirculation Ventilation: The unit comes pre-assembled for recirculation. A charcoal filter is used to clean the air before returning it to the kitchen. This system does not use an external damper.
  • Power Cord Management: The power cord should be threaded through a hole in the top cabinet and dressed neatly within the cabinet.
  • Grease Filters: The microwave oven includes grease filters, which are installed after the unit is mounted.

Maintenance Features:

  • Charcoal Filter Replacement (Recirculation System): For recirculation venting, a charcoal filter is used. If replacement is needed, users should contact a MAYTAG authorized dealer. The process involves removing screws from the front grille, removing the grille, installing the new charcoal filter, and then replacing the grille and screws.
  • Grounding: The appliance must be properly grounded to reduce the risk of electrical shock. It is equipped with a 3-blade grounding plug that must be plugged into a properly installed and grounded outlet. If an extension cord is necessary, it must be a 3-wire grounding type, and its electrical rating must be at least as great as the appliance's. The extension cord should be arranged to prevent it from draping over countertops where it could be pulled or tripped over.
  • Safety Precautions: Before beginning installation, house fuses should be removed or circuit breakers opened to avoid severe or fatal shock injury. The installer must perform a ground continuity check on the power outlet box.

The installation kit includes:

  • Installation instruction booklet with diagrams.
  • Top Cabinet Template for locating the power cord clearance hole, cabinet mounting holes, and vertical exhaust location.
  • Wall Mounting Plate (instead of a Wall Mount Template) for locating mounting plate holes and horizontal exhaust location.

Parts included for installation: Lag screws, Toggle Bolts, Spring Loaded Toggle Nuts, Cabinet Mounting Bolts, Washers, Grommet, Damper, Foam Tape, Top Cabinet Template, and Wall Template.

Tools that may be needed for installation include: Phillips screwdrivers, Electric Drill Motor, 1/2" & 5/8" Wood Bits, 3/16" Drill Bit, Saw (or Jig Saw) for exhaust opening, Tin Snips, Pencil, Tape Measure, Paper Tape, and Duct Tape.
