Why won't my Makita Lawn Mower engine start?
- AAmanda JonesJul 27, 2025
If your Makita Lawn Mower engine won't start, several factors could be at play. First, ensure the throttle chock is correctly positioned for the current conditions. Then, check if the fuel tank is empty and refill it if necessary. Also, a dirty air cleaner element can prevent starting, so clean it. Other potential issues include a loose spark plug (tighten to 25 – 30 Nm), a disconnected spark plug wire (reinstall it), an incorrect spark plug gap (set it to 0.7 to 0.8 mm), or a defective spark plug (replace it). If the carburetor is flooded, remove the air cleaner element and pull the starter rope until it clears, then reinstall the element. If none of these steps work, the ignition module may be faulty, and you should contact a Makita authorized service center.
