Why Mantis engine fails to start?
    • M
      Mark MartinezAug 12, 2025
Your Mantis Edger engine might fail to start due to several reasons. First, ensure the Start/Stop switch is in the Start position. Other potential causes include an empty fuel tank (fill it), a clogged fuel strainer (replace it), or a clogged fuel line (clean it). The spark plug could be shorted or fouled (install a new one), or broken (replace it). Also, check the ignition lead wire for shorts, breaks, or disconnections (replace or attach it). If the ignition is inoperative, you must contact your nearest Authorized Mantis Dealer.

What to do if Mantis engine lacks power?
    • C
      christineperezAug 16, 2025
If your Mantis Edger engine lacks power, several factors could be responsible. Start by checking the air filter and clean or replace it if clogged. Other potential issues include a carburetor that is out of adjustment, a clogged muffler (clean carbon from it), clogged exhaust ports (remove carbon), or a clogged spark arrestor (clean it). For poor compression, you must contact your nearest Authorized Mantis Dealer.

How to fix Mantis Edger engine hard to start?
    • E
      Elizabeth StevensAug 20, 2025
If your Mantis Edger engine is hard to start, consider these possibilities: there might be water in the gasoline or a stale fuel mixture (drain and refill with fresh fuel), or too much oil in the fuel mixture (drain and refill with the correct mixture). The engine might be under or over choked (follow the operation section instructions). Gasket leaks (carburetor or cylinder base gasket) can also cause this issue (replace the gaskets). For a carburetor out of adjustment, see “Carburetor Adjustment”. If there is a weak spark at the spark plug, you must contact nearest Authorized Mantis Dealer.

What to do if Mantis cutting blade does not turn when operating?
    • S
      Shelly BrewerAug 23, 2025
If the cutting blade of your Mantis Edger doesn't turn during operation, check if the blade cover is filled with dirt/grass and clean it. Other possible causes include a slipping clutch (cut less deep), a loose blade nut (tighten it), or the choke being partly on (push the choke to the OFF position).

    Why Mantis engine misses?
    • K
      Kenneth SaundersAug 27, 2025
If your Mantis Edger engine is missing, it could be due to dirt in the fuel line or carburetor (remove and clean). The carburetor might be improperly adjusted (see “Carburetor Adjustment”). Another possible cause is a spark plug that is fouled, broken, or has an incorrect gap setting (clean or replace the spark plug and set the gap to .024-.028 in. (0.6-0.7mm). For a weak or intermittent spark at the spark plug, no solution was provided.

What causes Mantis Edger engine to stall under load?
    • C
      courtneygutierrezAug 31, 2025
If your Mantis Edger engine stalls under load, the carburetor adjustment might be too “lean” (see “Carburetor Adjustment”). Also, the engine may be overheating (remove dust and dirt from between the fins).

What causes Mantis Edger engine noisy or knocking?
    • A
      amy74Sep 4, 2025
If your Mantis Edger engine is noisy or knocking, it might be due to spark plugs in the incorrect heat range (replace with plugs specified for the engine). It can also happen because bearings, piston ring or cylinder walls are worn, you must contact nearest Authorized Mantis Dealer.

How to resolve gear case leaking in Mantis Edger?
    • C
      Connie HughesSep 7, 2025
If the gear case of your Mantis Edger is leaking, first check for loose screws and tighten them. If that's not the issue, a broken O-ring could be the cause (replace the O-ring). Finally, the grease might be too thin or oil was used (refill with the correct grade grease, see page X).
