  If the Mantis Log Splitter fails to split the log, first, try re-positioning the log. If that doesn't work, the log may exceed the permitted dimensions or be too hard for the machine's capacity; in this case, set it aside and try a different one. Also, check the oil level and adjust if needed. The splitting wedge may have burrs, nicks, or flat spots, requiring you to sharpen it as directed in section J. Finally, a leak of hydraulic oil may cause low hydraulic pressure, place cardboard under the log splitter to locate the leak, and worn components should be replaced.

  If the pressure plate of your Mantis Log Splitter advances with a jerky motion or strong vibration, it could be due to air in the system. Open the bleed screw and cycle the pressure plate back and forth three to four times to help remove any air that may have mixed into the hydraulic fluid. Another possible cause is a low hydraulic fluid level; check and adjust the hydraulic oil level accordingly.
