FX20 INSTALL GUIDE
4 VERSION 1.6 | APRIL 26, 2024
INSTALL OVERVIEW
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
The FX20 machine will be powered on and o at various points throughout the installation procedure. Do
not open either the rear lower panel or the upper sided panels without explicit direction from Markforged.
For your safety, at all other times follow proper lockout/tagout procedure to ensure that the printer is
powered o.
SCHEDULING AND EXPECTATIONS
We anticipate that the installation will take two days. If the site is set up and supplied prior to arrival,
and the Installer encounters no issues, the air-intake sample part should kick o at the end of the rst day. A
typical install might break down as follows:
Leveling 2 hours
Encoder setting 30 minutes
Miscellany (material loading, print sheet prep, etc.) 1 hour
Gantry alignment 2 hours
Oset calibration 3 hours
Chamber temperature calibration 5 hours (overnight)
User training 1 hour
Air intake print 3 hour print (morning)
Customer training Throughout days 1-2
Issues ranging from incorrect facilities setup, failed utilities, to starting test parts late can delay installs.
Some such delays can be mitigated by customers providing early morning and/or late evening access to
install sites. This access should be established in advance of the installation period.
Carefully read and follow all instructions in this document, and communicate early and often with your
customer, to set appropriate expectations for the install. This will ensure the greatest chance of a successful
and speedy installation.
Note: The FX20 crate does not include a power cord or print material. These must be ordered
separately from the Markforged shop. The power cord must be ordered at the same time as the machine
and will ship separately from the FX20 crate. Onyx material (either 800cc or 3200cc) is required for
installation; it must be ordered in advance of the installation to ensure that it is available for the Installer to
initiate calibration utilities and start a test print. This test print will verify a successful installation.
