Overview

The provided document is an owner's manual for the "Michael Phelps Chilly GOAT Cold Tubs by Master Spas." This manual outlines the operation, maintenance, and safety guidelines for these cold tubs, which are designed for cold-water therapy and relaxation.

Function Description:

The Chilly GOAT Cold Tub is a product designed for revitalizing cold-water therapy. It allows users to determine the temperature and duration for which they are immersed. The unit is equipped with a heat pump that provides both heating and cooling capabilities to achieve the desired water temperature. An efficient circulation pump runs continuously for filtration and to facilitate heat pump operation. The cold tub also features a Nonslip, Comfort Floor System (if equipped) for better grip, traction, and comfort, making it safer for users to enter and exit. For water sanitation, the cold tub can be equipped with a UV system.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electrical Requirements: Configuration 1: 120V, 15A Service (Dedicated). This requires a dedicated 120V, 15A 2-wire plus ground (14 AWG copper) circuit with a 15 AMP breaker and GFCI. The GFCI cord is preinstalled in plug-n-play models.
  • Water Capacity: 115 gallons (0.44 m³) for both Alpine Terrain and Alpine Glacier models.
  • Dimensions: 84 x 42 x 30 inches (for both Alpine Terrain and Alpine Glacier models).
  • Dry Weight: 560 lbs (254 kilos) for both models.
  • Full Weight: 1750 lbs (794 kilos) for both models (based on dry weight, max seating capacity, average person weight of 185 lbs, and estimated water weight of 8.34 lbs per gallon).
  • Water Temperature Range: The heat pump allows setting temperatures for cooling or heating. Safe temperatures for swimming or aquatic exercise are around 80°F (26°C). Water temperatures should never exceed 104°F (40°C). Prolonged immersion in cold water can induce hypothermia, while prolonged immersion in hot water can induce hyperthermia.
  • Clearance: At least 2 feet of clearance around the perimeter for servicing. For proper heat pump output ventilation, 6 feet of open space is necessary on the front long side.

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Control: Users can set the desired water temperature using the heat pump control panel. The heat pump engages to warm or cool the water within 3-5 minutes.
  • Circulation Pump: Runs 24 hours for efficient filtration and water flow for the heat pump.
  • Water Chemistry: Requires regular monitoring and adjustment of pH (7.2-7.6), total alkalinity (80-150 ppm), chlorine (2-4 ppm), and calcium hardness (180-250 ppm). A sequestering agent should be added during initial filling. Shocking the water weekly or after heavy bather use is recommended.
  • Thermometer: A floating thermometer is provided to check water temperature before use.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity (Clim8zone Heat Pump): The Clim8zone heat pump can be connected to a dedicated 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal for control via the "Smart Life" app. This allows for remote temperature setting, scheduling, and monitoring. The app also features "Share Device" for granting access to other users.
  • Safety Sign: A safety sign is included and should be placed in a visible location for all users, especially children.
  • GFCI: The unit is provided with a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) on the plug end of the 120-volt power cord, which must be tested before each use.
  • Drainage: Equipped with a drain fitting in the main equipment area. A ball valve in the equipment area allows for draining of the circulation pump and heat pump. A sump pump can be used to expedite draining.
  • Cover: An approved locking cover should be used when not in use to prevent unauthorized entry and injuries, and to insulate the cold tub.

Maintenance Features:

  • Draining and Cleaning: Recommended at least every 180 days, or more often with heavy use. This involves turning off power, removing skirt panels, opening the drain valve, and using a shop vac to remove residual water.
  • Filter Elements: Essential for clean water and extending equipment life. Should be cleaned at least once a month (more frequently with heavy use or poor water quality) by soaking in filter cleaner and rinsing with a garden hose. Filters should be allowed to dry completely before re-inserting. Replacement is needed annually or as required.
  • Shell Surface Care: Cleaned with a soft cloth and cold tub shell cleaner to remove residue and buildup. White vinegar or mild scale remover can be used for stubborn buildup. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
  • Cabinet Care: Made from UV-resistant material, requires periodic cleaning with a stream of water from a garden hose and mild soap.
  • UV System Maintenance (if equipped): The UV-C lamp (20) needs to be replaced every 12-18 months. This involves disconnecting the unit, removing the enclosure cover, carefully handling the lamp with latex gloves, and replacing the quartz tube and cushions.
  • Nonslip, Comfort Floor System Care (if equipped): Cleans easily with soap, hot water, and a brush. Chlorine/bleach and water mixture, isopropyl rubbing alcohol, or other household cleaners can be used. Promptly clean noticeable stains. Avoid bromine sanitizer, acid-based cleaning products, acetone, or mineral spirits.
  • Winterizing: If not using the cold tub in winter, it must be completely drained, vacuumed, and components loosened to prevent freeze damage. Non-toxic RV water line antifreeze can be used. The cold tub should be covered with a watertight tarp to prevent water entry and allow air circulation to reduce mold buildup.
  • Maintenance Log: The manual includes a section to record maintenance performed, including GFCI tests (before each use), filter cartridge cleaning (at least once a month), spa cover cleaning and conditioning (twice a month), and draining and cleaning the cold tub (every 6 months or as needed).
  • Troubleshooting Guide: Provides solutions for common issues such as GFCI tripping, the unit not operating, and the heat pump not heating/cooling, as well as error codes for the Clim8zone heat pump.
